I realised something the other day when watching F1 without ads. In England the BBC get paid the TV license fee so therefore cannot accept sponsorship or had adverts as they are already getting paid elsewhere.
That's why I have to ask How can RTE take 160 euro off every household in the country and still get paid millions a year in advertising as well as nearly every program that's on it sponsored by some sort of product. How are they allowed to get away with this. I mean its not like the money is going back into "Quality Programs", I cant name one single RTE made program that's exported. Thats because its all low budget crap. If you compare it to the BBC which nearly every program they make is exported because they will actually invest in making a high quality show e.g Top Gear which is watched by a worldwide audience of nearly a billion people because the BBC dare to spend the License Fee on it and get it back and then some on the re-sale of it.

Anyway rant over. It just really annoys me that the RTE has its finger in every pie out there and we the Fee paying Irish public get nothing in return...

I'm sure some of you out there will agree and undoubtedly some right wing people will disagree. I look forward to any feedback

Do you watch bbc...they have ads like everyone else! Also ireland is not anywhere near the same size as the UK so you cannot compare quality programming . Build a bridge and get over it!

I dont know why you need a TV licence when you have a subscription to Sky or NTL. It should be the company who should pay RTE

The BBC don't have ads....they never have done.

OP, the answer simply don't buy the license. You know the ad...

"We know all the excuses, we've heard them all before"

So pick a classic excuse and let them whistle for it.

Firstly the BBC do not have ads only ads for their own programs
The size of the country means nothing. They are still millions being pumped in to the RTE not to mention the advertising revenue. And nearly all of the programs that RTE show are bought in. Which leaves them with only a handful of home grown programs to spend their money on and their all low budget and terrible. Where as near all of the BBCs programs are their own and they don't compromise the quality just so they can have a bigger bonus at the end of the year.

The BBC dont have ads. What has that got to do with this country?
Do a list all of the countries in Europe that have a tv licence and no adverts at all on the publicly funded channels. I foresee a very short list.

RTE make hardly any of the programmes they show. Bull**** and you know it. I guess that makes me right wing

I'm closing this, as much has been covered in the other thread.
