I'd say apply anywhere and everywhere, there are graduates out there who are working in McDonalds so you're going to be the least attractive person to hire.

I take it you didn't here about the 1500 applicants for Londis last week? There was a huge queue snaking down through Stephen's Green. Even if you wanted a McDonald's job you'd be competing against architects and solicitors.

    so 10 applicants a job :)

and don't take a freakin gap year, college NOW NOW NOW
i took one and on one hand I did make some money, but on the other hand I had to deal with all my friends being in college or school and being at home all day cause I only had a part time job

i'd save the gap year for later, when you have the money to travel/enjoy it. or at least the security of the job. maybe look into something in the care industry. i worked with the elderly for my gap year, work with kids and do a reception job now.

i kinda want to though, because i didn't do TY and i'm REALLY young for my year, so i want to catch up really, and i had to give up sports/gym/guitar this year, so i want to get back into them like. And also i'd like to learn to drive ideally.

I have a promotions gig part-time, but i need more really.

Sure you can learn to drive in about a week with lessons... It doesn't sound like you're thinking long term. There are basically no jobs for an inexperienced young person right now. I know a lot of people who did a "gap year", and it consisted of them sitting at home going out of their minds with boredom because they didn't have enough money to go out or do anything.

First year in college in most courses is quite easy going. From what you've written, your goals for next year seem very easily doable while also going to college, so if going to college is really what you want to do, I would consider the reality of the situation of the country right now and start college in September.

Being young would be a good reason to take a gap year, but if you think about it, your age will also hinder you getting a job, especially in the current economic climate.

My advise would be to go to college and take a gap year later on, by deferring second or third year. You'll get a year's free fees, and at that point you'll be older and it'll likely be a lot easier to get a job.

I'm stuck in a very much unintentional gap year at the minute and I am SO bored and broke it's just not funny. I dropped out of college after first year but it was too late to reapply to the course I want to do by the time I decided I wanted to leave. If I didn't have great friends and a great boyfriend I'd just be in bed and crying all day long.

Unless you have a plan then don't do it. You'll probably learn alot about yourself on a year off though and you can take it as a chance to learn new skills without having any other obligations. If it's intended as a gap year you'll be fine if you keep yourself busy.

thats the thing like i cant see myself running out of stuff to do through sports and projects and stuff (but i suppose everyone says that) and i feel i'd be more ready and mature for college and all like after the year, (nd plus im sick of being the youngest in everything lol)

Either get a loan and travel or work abroad or else go to college I say. I took a year out because i didnt know what i wanted to do but I had a job for the year so it wasnt too bad as i went travelling every now and then during the year. Theres no way i could sit at home for a year playing with myself.....although i have done a lot of that at college anyway

    OMG ARE YOU ABSOLUTELY CRAZY!?!?

I took a year off last year and I never regret something so much, It would have been nice if there were jobs to tide me over but DO NOT FOOL YOURSELF - THERE ARE NO JOBS.

Seriously, If you have the points why waste a year, Go to college and just in case you are afraid that you mighn't get your points then apply to FETAC courses and see if they have links to further education, If nothing it is a back-up!

Honestly, Taking a year out now is not a good idea. While the economy is coming back, it is barely, and even then companies aren't getting the revenue to employ more people. I have applied everywhere(Most places you are probably thinking of i.e Tesco, McDonalds, Dunnes etc) and they have all went "We barely get the hours ourselves anymore"..

And if your looking for a job in retail(aka high street) really think again because if you have a 100 in 1 chance of getting a job in a tesco or Dunnes you have a 1000 in 1 chance of getting a job in retail like River Island or Zara or something like that.

All I am saying is just really make sure a year out is something you want because when all your mates are off in college and your stuck at home with no job it isn't fun one bit...

Jesus I sound like a 50 year old but I suppose I really had to grow up this year. Just make sure you have a plan if you do take the year out because you can't just take a year out, It doesn't look good in interviews etc..
(Sorry if I sounded preachy, Just trying to help)
