3 broadband usb (Huawei E160G) works fine with Xp not so much with vista, - Strange thing though - it IS working but "unable to connect to" Eg google.ie yet when I go to ping or tracert in dos both work fine, connectivity is proven.

    IE - unable
    Chrome - unable
    Opera - unable
    Firefox - unable,

all browsers functioning properly pics and text will load with local files in c:\

on my own network I can remote desktop and share files between PC's with different O/S but still I cannot connect to any outside url through browser - this is probably only a case of ticking some box but cannot find box.

'hosts' file has been altered several times eg ::1 , :::1, #::1 , 127.0.0.1 localhost, localhost - nothing doing

    Any help out there.
Don't need to know how crap 3 broadband is etc, just the tech help please!

Yep I've done that there is nothing wrong with the usb dongle but somewhere along the line with vista it is not working. I've uninstalled, re-installed, changed properties here and there always one at a time systematically. Checked thru google the huawei manufacturers forum (not very good) a few other forums - nothing.

Zulp, to ask the obvious, do you have credit?

Even when out of credit the modem will appear live and make initial moves to connect to any URL entered. Make sure your data/time allocation has not run out.

Just to add, I use an E169 Huawei fine with Vista, make sure any security software like Norton isn't blocking your access. Try a different USB port to the one the software was installed through, that might prompt a driver rejig by Vista.. also reboot.

Don't use norton, I use clamwin and threatfire nothing there, also works within Xp, tried the other usb ports, re-installed uninstalled, connectivity is there because ping and tracert can reach a website but browsers won't.

where are you mate? I can confirm it is down for 2 days as a mast upgrade is being carried out in Ballinrobe, mayo. Mine is off. I spoke with an engineer yesterday who was up the mast and he said it was three that were doing upgrades and the mast will be out of action for 48 hours until wednesday morning.

I'm in wicklow and it is working here I can dload via xp no problem and for some reason lately much faster that normal speedtest is about 152kb/s yesterday up 40% or so. Anyway still this problem exists within Vista, at least I think I've narrowed it down that far.
