Is Rent Allowance possible for an existing rental?

I've been living in shared accomodation in Dublin for 4 months, paying 575 Euros a month. I have been out of work since the beginning of April and will be unable to continue paying such an amount.

Will I be able to supplement my existing rental agreement with rent allowance? I have signed a year long lease with our landlord.

Also, will I need to wait until I receive my Unemployment Allowance payments before I can receive rent allowance?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

You need to get a form to fill in from your welfare office which you and the Landlord will sign. The form will request other documents such as your rent book etc. Do it as soon as possible as I don't think it can be backdated.

    Why are you moving out?

I suspect unless you have a good reason the Community Welfare Officer will want to know why you are leaving a perfectly good, free home to go into rental accommodation you can't afford on your own?

    Well, here's the information.

You have to go to your local community welfare officer to apply.
