Musically, Hed Kandi is all about style! Their sound has almost become a genre in itself. First and foremost they’re about seriously good club music. To define that more clearly it would be true to describe it as predominantly vocal, soulful house, US garage and glittering disco – always deliciously stylish, of course! However, there are many other sides to Kandi’s dancefloor and the 3rd May sees them return after their recent ‘Twisted Disco’ triumph in Tripod. Launched in 1999, Hed Kandi has evolved from humble beginnings as a compilation brand into the global phenomenon it is today. With a catalogue spanning over 60 albums, a number of artist projects and three UK Top Ten singles and a host of Top 40 hits to date, Hed Kandi is now a globally respected brand.

Delivering these styles of music with a sense of humour to grown-up clubbers eventually snowballed into Hed Kandi parties and their first full residency began in London in 2002. The buzz about the most lavishly produced club events seen in the UK at that time soon spread and the first parties were roadblocked. The popularity of the nights increased exponentially so that residencies started to crop up all over the UK. Hed Kandi parties now happen in all continents of the globe – a true phenomenon. Then of course there’s Hed Kandi’s radio empire – currently pumping out six broadcasts of the hottest tracks every week in the UK across the Galaxy network and on MoS radio.

    Andy Norman

Seen these days as the elder statesman of Hed Kandi, DJ Andy Norman is originally part of the founding line-up of one the UK’s biggest dance compilation record labels. He started working with label founder Doyle back in 1989; it was around that time when they held small local club events namely, ‘Freestyle’, ‘Colours’ and the now very well known ‘Back To Love’ for a number of years. During these years Hed Kandi was born. Andy went on to team up with Doyle at Hed Kandi after the label’s first year to work on the label’s growth. In that period he assisted in the compilation of a number of quality album releases for Hed Kandi and the more soulful sister label, Jazz Fm records.

Currently one of the main resident DJs of ‘Team Kandi’ Andy continues to grace some of the world’s greatest nightclubs across the globe; Australia, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, Russia & North America are just a few of the destinations where Andy has brought the sound of Hed Kandi. He’s still a part of the Kandi Radio team, presenting radio shows on Ministry of Sound Radio and Galaxy FM and he brings his excellent DJ skills to Tripod with Hed Kandi’s latest outing.

    Colin Airey

Beginning, like many other Dj’s, from humble roots, Colin Airey has established himself as one of the main players at Hed Kandi. He developed his funky house style in various bars and clubs around Liverpool and went on to gain residency at some of the biggest clubs in the North West. In 2000 he made the difficult decision to leave the Liverpool club scene due to the fact that the music policies had moved away from the funky vocal sounds that he had played through his career so far. This led to his decision to switch his attention to creating his own sound of house music and joined forces with Alex Buchanan aka Kingkade of Minimal Records and Dirty Blue. He has been making waves with his releases since then and his set promises to deliver funky house that will keep the dance floor popping.
