These two matches are slow burners.

A pretty silly call by Alan Chamberlain in the 16th frame of Dott vs Selby. Dott stopped the white from going in off, with his fist. Instead of playing the ball were it rested, Selby picked it up and moved it into the D. The referree than called a foul on Selby for picking the ball up off the bed of the table. Next shot to Dott.

Should have just let Selby away with it, he didn't seem to know he was technically making a foul.

According to the rule book, Chamberlain was correct. Hewever, he could have easily avoided a silly situation by informing the players why the foul on Dott was called (ie. for touching the cueball rather than the in-off). This would have cleared it all up. I think it is perfectly understandable that Mark placed the cueball in the "D". After all he's got a lot more on his mind!

Going again I think Alan Chamberlain would conduct it slightly differently (if it ever occurs again).

Anyway I agree with Neal Foulds that what Grahame done is not a nice thing to see (in a pro tournament anyway), this isn't just a knock about with the lads on the club table afterall.

Also I thaught Grahame was a bit unsporting that he didn't let mark in to take the next shot. Ok, there were no pots left on, but there were some safety options there. All that doesnt matter though now, Dott played a bad safety shot and Mark ended up winning the frame.

    Ipso facto!

Hmmmm, after watching the replay on BBC 2. I think Grahame moved the cueball with his hand again while all the discussion was going on. (I may be wrong, but I'll check later)

So if this is the case, Alan Chamberlain did not spot this and it "should" have been a 3rd foul.

Saw that frame alright, never seen anything like it before. I was kinda confused too so decided to dig a bit deeper here: http://www.worldsnooker.com/rules_of_snooker.htm

So here's the way I understand Chamberlain's decisions:
    1) Dott fouls by touching the white (regardless of the fact that he prevented it entering the pocket) The ball is not forced off the table as it has remained in contact with the bed at all times.
Now Rule 11 (F) Section 3 comes into play "The next stroke is played from where the cue-ball comes to rest or, if the cue-ball is off the table, from in-hand."

    2) Mark Selby assumes play will continue as if the white had been potted and picks the white up and so "Forces the white ball off the table" invoking rule 14.
    14. Forced Off the Table
A ball is forced off the table if it comes to rest other than on the bed of the table or in a pocket, or if it is picked up by the striker, whilst it is in play except as provided for in Section 3 Rule 14(h).

    3) According to rule 9 (iii) the ball is "In-Hand" after it is forced off the table, so now Dott can play from anywhere inside the D.

Looks like Chamberlain was correct, though I agree it was harsh. I would thought he would have mentioned it to Selby even though technically he probably shouldn't.

What Dott should have done is pot the cue ball into the green pocket after the comotion had finished. That would have meant the same result had Dott not stopped the white from going in. It's what I would have done anyway. Delighted Selby will win, I took a tenner bet off a fella Selby vs Allen.

Just seen what happened on the highlights show, and Dott should have definately potted the cue ball into the green pocket
