I'm having my consultation this week but my friend was told over the phone that in total it would cost 340 euro. This seems much more expensive than some of the prices Ive seen quoted here. We are going to Southern Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru. I assume that price doesn't include malaria tablets either.

I'm sure there was a poster on here going the same route as us that posted up his total cost at around 220. I cant find the thread. Any thoughts ?

Also , is getting the vaccines 3 weeks before we go away ok ? Or should I leave more time.

Lastly - Malaria tablets will be covered on the DPS scheme wont they ?

    Thanks!

Same, mine came to 220. Your friend might be have got the rabies jab. It's €50 and you need 3 shots. So that's an extra €150 on to the €220. I know it's needed for Paraguay. Other than that if you'll always be within 24 hours of a medical centre you don't need it.

Also yes malaria tabs are covered on the DPS.

Cheers guys. I got mine today, joint consultation + student card. Total cost was 184 euro. That doesnt include malaria tablets though and I have a week to decide if I was to get the rabies shots. They would be an extra 75 euro.

Its a tough decision - its a lot of money and I probably wont need them. But on the other hand, rabies is fatal! He said the only part of our trip to be worried about rabies is when we go into the Amazon (for 3 days). I wonder will I be more than 24 hours from a clinic while in the Amazon. Hmm.

I wasnt asked any questions about my/my parents income when applying for the DPS!
