shooting price difference North V South

Just wondering is anyone else noticing the price difference between north and south at the moment. I think its ;20 stg (or ?22) to shoot a registered shoot up North yet €40 down south! £25 for OT up north, €45 down south. And Cartridges are nearly half price too! Decent shells up north @€;130 a 1000, down south can be well over €200. Is there a reason for this I'm missing? I thought they would all buy clays & shells in at the same price?????? And guns are way cheaper too????

There's a noticable price difference in the cost of .22 ammo as well, though I'm not sure about competition entries.

a few big importers cant name names but we all know them ,riding us for years .

in a word "greed" from the grounds to the importers importers .

there should be a thread set up for price watch on ammo and firearms

Thats an excellent point.I wonder how would one go about putting up a thread dedicated to price variations across the country and not find himself in deep s***e.Im only new on here and still a bit unsure of the fine line. But its a thread I would follow with great interest as Ive been in the shooting game a long time now and I know what getting ripped off is all about.Dealers in this country have been creaming it here for a long time although theres still a few good ones out there.I think these are the guys we should be supporting instead of the other conmen we all know of.

All grounds! ICPSA sets our entry fee's (mentioned in the 1st post) and I have in the past expained how the entry fee is broken down. I assume the 'greed' comment applies to others who flog guns & ammo!

This was covered in a recent thread - it's subsidised by the UCPSA to encourage people to take part.

Great idea and one we should look at adopting.

i know the grounds have set price s dave, no cut in intended for your sleeves.

but it could be a lot cheaper all round the flappers in wexford charge 10-12 euro for 30 birds and give out a very small percent of the takings in prizes .

the shooter that wants to shoot cant afford to spend money .

a days costing for a sunday shooting sporting in dublin

    entry 45 ,diesel 30 ,shells 30 toll bridge 16 lunch 10 .

not to mention a few practice shots during the week .

i for one would much prefer to put it into my mortgage.

and keep my spare cash for hunting

JW, I was just pulling your do dah!!

Agree flappers are an affordable way and I'm very impressed that you can get to Dub & back on 30 Euro!

Just from a ground viewpoint, I open up the Compact Sporting every Saturday and 'typical' numbers that shoot it are 3 or 4 people (last weekend it was just 2!), non members = 7.50 for 25 clays, thats not shabby at all and I'm beginning to wonder if its worth the effort (20 mins to set up 5/6 traps/buttons etc) for 2 people!

Jaysus JW. Didn't realise you kept your shooting gear in the back of a 40ft lorry and brought it everywhere with you ;);)

The €45 entry fee to ICPSA registered shoots is the maximum fee clubs are allowed charge - they can charge less if they want to/can afford to. I believe the ICPSA takes €7 or €8 of the fee, the rest goes to the club? Might we see clubs reducing entry fees to attract competitors? Also, if I enter as a 'birds only' competitor, how much is the entry fee reduced by and does this only exclude me from winning the cash prizes? (if by some miracle I actually won a class prize - 10 years shooting and 4th in class C is my best result ever:(;)).

Rules, regulations and red tape to force people to buy local. Protect the own market. Well higher prices in the republic feed back into how competitive we are on the world market with Irish products including tourism. The society has to suffer so that a few earn more for a short time.

I checked prices recently on a new rifle. The north £580,- the south I had one shop wanting 1300 € for the same rifle. Some hero eh
We always find it interesting that the Irish butter is much cheaper in Germany than it is here.
A lot of homework needs to be done.

This thread from last December mght help explain the situation for you, its based on entry fee's for DTL / ABT etc and for Sporting an extra 1.00 is paid in levies and we always add extra to the prize fund. Hope this helps. David http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=58214211#post58214211

the price difference didn't effect record numbers at Gold cup anyway!

I think we are getting ripped off big time down here (as usual) and something should be done. Shooting is half price up north!

Have to admit it's hard to defend against that when it costs 9 cents a round in the ROI for some .22lr stuff and 3 cents for the same round across the border...

Trap, I agree, the numbers attending the Gold CUP were very high. Shooters/Grounds get no subsidy down here, I let 75 shooters off the extra Euro during last Mondays Sporting shoot at the Mountain (The Euro is for ICPSA the Junior Fund) and paid it ourselves, as we think the shooter already pays far to much.

Other than that we can do no more as we still have running and set up costs.

so how can they afford to run shoots up north for €20 less than down south with running costs, levys, etc? How can they sell shells at almost €100 a thousand less???

There are definitely dealers down south that are getting their shells directly off northern dealers at discounted prices and then inflating the price for southern shooters by up to 50%! It's not right and it will contribute to a decline in shooting down here.

At least now a lot of regular shooters are getting their shells directly up north and saving a packet. It's not fair on the man that doesn't have access to this and is being ripped off.

The Gold Cup is always a big event, but it's also a selection shoot - that'll bring out the crowds.

Yes it is. Fill yer boots.

But remember you will need documentation in place to have the ammo in your possession whilst in the north. Dealers may meet you at the border at hand you the ammo over the imaginary line!

Only with extra paperwork though. Need a permit to buy ammunition up there as I recall; southern FAC on its own won't do. (Though if it will, *zoom*)
