Hi. I have a voucher from Topgifts.ie to use and I'm thinking of doing one of the rally school courses. There seems to be options with both Superdrive in Portadown and Rally Connection in Dungarvan. Can anyone recommend which would be best? I'm based in Mayo but the trip to either wouldn't put me off. I've never done one of these classes before but I'm hoping it will be good craic.
    Cheers :)

Have heard good things about the set-up & tutors in Portadown, haven't been to either of those, only RSI.

Thanks De Hipster. I reckon I'll give Portadown a go. Cheers.

I visited the Superdrive Rally school up in Portadown last weekend so I though I'd let people know how it went in case anyone else is thinking about doing it.

I had booked the "Intermediate Plus" session which involved 2 goes in a RWD car (Focus or MkII) and one run in an Evo.

[I suppose I should make it clear that I'd never done anythink like this before so my opinion is probably influenced by that. More experienced drivers may have a different opinion]

There were 2 instructors and they took about 5 of us each. The track is about a half mile long and is mainly gravel with tarmac on the corners (to prevent excess wear I guess) and plenty of run-off area. There's a mixture of chicanes and hairpins with virtually no straights. The first run goes clockwise and the second anti-clockways and the 3 goes clockwise again but includes a little extension to the track.

The RWD was loads of fun. The instructors are great and really encourage you to get the tail out and drift around the corners. They egg you on all the time too and there's no sense of them trying to hold you back (unless of course you are heading for the fence).

You get 8-9 laps per run so seat time is fairly low, but I can honestly say that it didn't seen that way and the other lads I was talking to said the same. It may be quick but it's very intense. It took about 3 hours in total from safety briefing to heading home.

The Evo was immense. The 4WD was way different obviously and it took a wee bit to get used to it. But the power was class.

So all in all a brilliant day out. Expensive no doubt but I can honestly say that I think it was completely worth it.

[Sorry for the disjointed nature of the post. I'm just typing stuff as it [
    occurs to me]

was recently at Superdrive myself and would echo all of the above. Can't commend the instructors enough for egging you on / building confidence / decent feedback between runs and good honest feedback when all runs are finished.

Well i won a voucher for the full pro day in superdrive through today fm/topgifts. and i have to say top class day the 3 runs i done in the rwd were in the forus not the mark II, initially i was disapointed but after lap 1 i was not great fun, and instructors reckon the focus was better handleing, ie more nimble. then the evo was fantastic , grip in the car is immense, loved every minute of it and would reccomend it to anyone!!!
