    ..to get a provisional licence if I apply in person? Can I get it there and then or do I have to wait for it in the post?

    Fixed your post;)
    It usually takes about 2 weeks, give or take, some motor tax offices issue them there and then, but they are in the minority.

    Thanks, I knew it had a different name now.
    Do you know which offices do? I was going to go to the one on Queen Street, Dublin. I need it pronto

    No i don't. I think a lot of it will come down to how bust they are at the time. Why the rush?

    Wherever your local motor tax office is, you go there, fill out the form, hand it in with 2 passport photos signed by you, eyesight report if it is your first, €15, and they will send it out in the post. I dont know if any hand it out there and then. They give you a receipt, so maybe you could use that as your permit for the time being. It only takes about 3 working days for the license to come in post.

    Cheers, hoping to get insurance by Friday. Sure I'll get the receipt and see if the insurance company will entertain me. Thanks, vroom vroom

    Apply on the Monday you should have it by the Friday or the following Monday. They're quite prompt when it comes to issuing licenses.
