Some time ago I promised I would find out who was flying that rocket in and out of LHR or that B737-200 or 2K3.

    Here it is.....http://www.airplane-pictures.net/image41535.html

I think JAT is leasing it using it on the LHR BEG route.
Did see it up close as it did a u-turn when ATC changed take off's from 09R to 27R

Wonder what the interior on it is like?

    JT-8D's,

    Full turbojets, noisy as!
    and mechanic-decapitating reversers.

When you sat behind the wing on one of them, it did really feel and sound like a rocket on take off! Those engines may be small and pokey looking but they could definetly still pack a punch. I remember you could hear the boom right across North Dublin:D

I used to live in Swords, and every morning you'd hear JT8Ds moaning into life and doing power checks. Loved it!

Why did you call them pigs? A lot of ex DLH -200 went to Ryanair when they were operating the -200.

It was a generic spotters name for 737's

I think it came from the fact that 737's were short and fat.

    747's were ' lumps '
    757's were ' tubes '

    Can't remember many more .

    Hi,

Actually now I think of it , these may have been names that London Based spotters used .

I know Manchester spotters for example used to call the TU134 ( or possibly the TU154 ) " the spider " , if you look at the way the undercarrage hung on approach it made sense apparently.

I never heard that term in London

I recall flying home from Catania to dublin on a McD jet (i think) with rear mounted engines and was given seat at the very end of the plane ...noise from engines did my head in...think the body tapered at that point and only had 2 either side of aisle...carrier was Nordic Air?? that possible.

I know Nordic Airlines lost it's operaters certificate Jan 25, 2009. Financial reasons. I haven't heard anything of any recovery?
