Anyone know if TG4 will be showing live coverage of the tour (de france) again this year..or have they dropped it? or for that matter what about the Giro?
have they taken that up, or just just dropped cycling from the budget altogether

No idea, but it should be on Eurosport if you have that?

Alternatively, you can pay for a month or two of eurosport player, well worth it for the commentary alone.

thanks didnt know about that player (Im sure Ive used an audio feed with eurosport only a couple of years ago) but might be worth my while getting this for a few months...any idea of the quality of images and slowdown when using this to watch live? - and how big the player is and can you watch full screen in clear quality?

    thanks.

I have never used it, but I would imagine for a subscription service they must have semi decent bandwidth allocated to users, so I would say it is pretty good. Plus you can watch it wherever with a laptop and good connection. Might wanna check out the eurosport site (and forum) to see what the deal is.

Yeah just did sounds good alright and for €5 cant really go wrong!
    again cheers for that :)

Incidentally just in case anyone is wonderin about the original Q
saw this on TG4 Press Realease site since then:

"TG4 has exclusive live television coverage in Ireland for the Tour de France up to Summer 2009"

but does that include 2009? ("up to 2009"

The player is great - it runs through the Windows Media Player plugin for your browser. It doesn't work with Flip4Mac so if you're on a mac, you'll need to run bootcamp or parallels.

Image quality is pretty good - obviously not as good as TV quality but still totally watchable. They offer three different quality streams, standard, medium and high quality.

You can play it full screen.

I've used the eurosport palyer - it's pretty good, and good value i think.

There are three quality settings; low, medium and high, and the high is very good though you do need a fairly fast connection to make it reliable (2mbps or more i'd guess). The low is still very watchable if you're broudband ain't the bee's knees. It streams to windows meadia player so it does full screen.

My only gripe with it is that it is not an "on-demand" sevice like cycling tv (but generally events that are on eurosport are not available on cycling tv) - the player has a schedule and that's it. The schedule is not identical to the tv schedule btw.

It's also handy for watching in a small screen on your desktop if you work at a computer -gets me through the day anyway :)

Actualy you should use VirtualBox - which is like paralells but free. I use it like this with Windows XP build. It works very well. The quality is actually very good.
