My 3 Series is due its first oil change - so it's either dealer or good independent. Tempted to go the Indy route - a friend recommended AC Car Sales. Anyone had any experience with them? Or should I be heading for the main dealer?!

is it brand new 09, or still under manufacturers warranty

if so then stick to the dealer to avoid nullment of warranty

and do so until warranty runs out ,this will save alot of hassle on you if anything ever goes wrong and you need to use warranty.

if its not new then price around or do it your self

Yeah go with an independent if your car is out of warranty.

I've been to ac cars a couple of times , they're not that cheap, but i found another BMW specialist . Courtneys just off the North Stand, i was well impressed with the machinery they were working on. Also saw they have the latest GT1 software diagnostics.

Hi joe, I've been to ac myself a couple of times and yes I agree, they can be quite pricey. Have you had work done by Courtneys youself - you reckon a better option? Where exactly are they and do they have a website? Cheers

You should read the other thread on here about the guy who didn't think the garage changed his oil as it was still black. They told him that a 'special black oil' was used. ;)

    Hi shabby.

Yes it was my 1st time going to Courtneys, And i was impressed with the work and also I wasn't getting a service but they refilled my washer bottle and and put air in the tyres ,my car was in with AC the week before and they didn't. it's just the little things that matter ,well and the price.

As far as i know they are a father and son outfit that used to do a lot of official work for Joe Duffy. After the whole franchise and warranty repair thing came along they kept going but as indys. They look after Mercs too and service cars for Annesley motors.

No they don't have a website, i couldn't even find them in the phonebook. I think it's a good sign they don't need to advertise but the garage is small they would be overwhelmed.

    Ph no. is 01 8743407

    Thanks guys,

It's still under warranty so might go dealer route. Might take a spin to the north - got a quote of €180 (for oil change and filter) from a Main Dealer there.

Is that reasonable from a BMW main dealer?

The parts are worth no more than €80 and it takes about half hour to do it, so I think it is not bad (€200 per hour of labour :)).

They have done the servicing on both my V8 petrol BMWs over many years. Do I need to say more?

The place is tiny and it doesn't look like much, but these lads know their stuff. It is a small family operation run by Tom (formerly a BMW service engineer for Joe Duffy, before he started for himself) and his son David plus about 2 or 3 other mechanics.

    Highly recommended.
