Heading to Scotland and England for a golf holiday with a few mates, have everything perbooked and set to go. Going in the start of may to play St Andrews old course, Carnoustie, The Belfry, Troon and Sunningdale. Anyone played any of these? or been golfing this time of year there, just wondering if the courses will be in good nick... cheers

Played the Old Course in St. Andrews a couple of times (november). It's an experience you are bound to enjoy... the history of the place. The course is a fun course to play with a couple of short par 4's, the road hole... the 18th... one of the most enjoyable tee shots is the opening one. My favourite hole is the par 3 11th... hope it's windy when you get there :)

Brought clubs on a trip to The Belfry, were due to play the PGA course there (not the Brabazon one which is the one you'd remember from Ryder Cups). Drank too much, didn't get out of bed to play golf but spent a nice afternoon on the patio overlooking the 10th tee of the Brabazon! Nice place to be.

Played Sunningdale once in the summer... played both the Old and the New Courses on the same day. I have to say that if I could only pick one place to play golf forever more, I'd chose there. Savour the 8th hole on the Old.... that tee shot is magic down the hill between the pines towards the half-way hut (my favourite par 4 that I've played).

Spend some time there on the verandah after your round soaking it all in if you can... watched Jackie Stewart tee off (and bring his dogs for a walk) while I was there... very toffee-nosed place but the golf is magic. Beautifully manicured grounds around the clubhouse... beautiful heather and pines on the course.

    Play Murifield & Troon ...

I found the old course very over rated..

Played Carnostie after the British open about 10 years back and was a beast of a course with rough that fought back...

I really hope the weather treats you kindly. If it's going to pour rain, I also hope that this will be on your Belfry day. By a country mile, this is the inferior course of the five in your schedule. I've played all the others, and they are the heart and soul of UK golf.
    Good luck!
