Did anyone attend this in the Judo National Training Centre in Finglas yesterday?.

Some great fights, but I'm wondering (I never got to speak with one of the refs) if anyone else noticed that fights were allowed go on on the ground for a lot longer than in previous years?.

Some fantastic grappling skills shown, which also makes me wonder, with a sizable portion of Judoka now cross training in BJJ will we get to see longer and better Newaza?.

Some very good fights alright, the standard of the Upper Kyu really seems to have gone up over the last year, the inclusion of more Kyu comps in the calender seeming to play it's part.

Only thing against it was the fact that Seniors had to check in between 8 & 9 and the first senior match didnt kick off until after two, at that stage, the guys from my club and I just wanted to head home.

Very hard to switch back on after you've warmed up for the third time.

    Dammit we keep crossing paths!.

Did you see the Polish lad from the Daigokan (spelling is phonetic and not correct) Vi-check [bald head, blue Judogi] show casing some superb Judo.

Won all his fights by ippon in both brown belt and open devisions.

Regarding the long wait for the seniors, totally agree with you. But what a huge representation from the mon's!.

Now I know who you are.

I saw him alright and got ran through by him, second fight - got buried with an osoto otoshi.

He got some lift and turn in the final of the uppers alright, and then no ippon for it - was a bit mad really.

Yup, can't remember the other chaps name (from DCU Judo) he looked disgusted that the fight had to continue!.

Next time you see me give me a nod, or throw me on my arse!.

I'm out of action at the moment with a perforated ear drum - compliments of a horrible flu & ear infection :(

I'll be seeing the Pole tonight, he got all his fights recorded if you give me a better description I'll ask him to email me the clip for you.

I'm supposed to be out myself at the minute - chasing Dan Points though so I fought stupidly :o I ended up retiring halfway through the bronze medal fight in the end, realised I'd have a hard time to win against John by Ippon so there was no point continuing.

It was his second fight of the day, I know cos he fought the other guy from my club in his first fight. I was in a white Moskito suit, dark curly hair. He came across me with a left Osoto Otoshi.

Michael from UCD was the other guy, lucky not get a broken arm in the end putting down his arm to try and stop the uchimata.

    Micheal, thats the chap.

    Do you have a beard?.

I had a bit of a beard, not a full one, think both the other guy and I from Galway were both rather unshaven on Sat.

I went for a flying armlock in the reperchage, ended up winning it on golden score - two shidos to one - was one of the most horrible fights to watch i'd say.
