Sneaking feeling for Derry but Kerry will probably trash them now that they have a great manager in charge.

We'd want to be putting them over the bar now & start building up a good cushion for half-time, but the good ball is just not reaching our forwards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭yayamark

Some of the Ball going in is poor.

Donaghy is sluggish so far (Weeshie)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,127 ✭✭✭✭kerry4sam

    Weeshie never lost it!

Almost half-time now but no major excitement - not like a final at all so far imo.

Another wide for Kerry, our 3rd in the first-half 24mins in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭yayamark

Paddy Bradley off with injury that can ony be good for Kerry

    Another wide for Kerry

    Poor game so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭yayamark

    Gooch makes it so easy

Give him the proper ball and its game over

    Walsh coming into it now

    1.5 to 6

Tommy Walsh man-of-match so far for definite but it's as good as par for par so far, level playing pitch ... makings for good second half

Estimated crowd of 15k at game

Croke Park make a loss on todays attendance.

Would Portlaois have been a better venue?

Weeshie Quote "I could hear the Bang from up here when M Quirke fell"

Either Weeshie has great hearing or Quirke is that big!

its a joke havin those teams playing up in croke park.. A few from derry and monaghan might travel to croker sure since they are close enough like and i doubt cork supporters would travel to dublin and what about kerry! Ha! If it was played in their own backyard i doubt anyone would still go!..

Excellent post well thought out and clearly the work of a genius

On other matters Cooper goes for a point from about 7 yards out!

    1.15 to 14
    Kerry finishing stronger

I am getting DeJa Vú 04 & 06 style already, roll on September and long live Jack O'Connor. I think that two critical moments in the game were Paddy Bradley getting injured and the introduction of Tadgh Kennelly, Tadgh setup two vital points near the finish.

Tommy Walsh was outstanding in his holding of the ball and general shoving lads out of his way, he still needs to work on his shooting but with Colm Cooper close by it is manageable. Kieran Donaghy was at sea all day and bar one or two catches at midfield during his stint there then it was a bad game overall for him.

The Sligo referee was terrible and I don't think there was any period of solid play longer than 25 or 30 seconds during the match encount of him a true disgrace which denied both Derry and Kerry the opportunity to play any freeflowing football.

Roll on the Summer and no matter what is written or said Kerry are the most consistent and hardworking team in Ireland and have gone through the league undefeated with only a draw with Dublin. On another note out of the 4 divisions of Football Div one was won by Kerry, Div 2 by Cork, Div 3 by Tipperary and Div 4 by Sligo and there was no Ulster victory. This proves that Munster Championship is a formidable competition and that Munster football is the strongest power in Ireland.

    Kerry for Sam 2009

20k showed up - between the two matches. That is a poor attendance, especially considering a good few league games got >10k, you would imagine two finals could muster a bigger crowd...

PortLaoise or Tullamore would have been more suitable from the sounds of things.

As for Kerry,it is a good sign for them.Usually a league title means they will win more silverware later on but I can see them losing out to Cork in Munster again as Cork look good too but in Killarney Kerry will be in their element.

well did anyone really expect a huge crowd heading up to croker when its at the opposite side of the country for most counties participatin? That was the point i was tryin to make earlier.. Although i was abit drastic in provin my point earlier.. I dont get why the gaa are playin the football league finals in croker (hours away frm most places) and then playin the hurling finals in stadiums closer to 'home'..

Kerry and Derry - there's nowhere good to hold that (Think about transport etc) No matter where you choose it's going to be hours away from both (or beside one, and 2 x hours away from the other)

    Same for Monaghan Cork...

yea fair point but portlaoise would have been a better venue.. I dont want to sound bad or anything but what is the point of wasting a stadium like croker on a league match that wont attract anyone barely?? (no harm intended just incase someone finds a reason to bite my head off)..

Deeelighted with the result but our performance leaves alot to be desired. Some room for thought before the Championship kicks into gear, thankfully.

Well done though to all involved and here's hoping to a safe return to the Kingdom to all who travelled.

wasnt at the game myself today but watched it at home with my auld man, my auld man was saying kerry had a poor midfield today. but we were both delighted that we won. whats wrong with galvin. how long is he out for, been living in dub all my life so dont get to 2 many gams unlesss there up in croke park, or parnell. hope to be around for the kerry v cork game. in june. tough game in june cork looked good today. i say we win the munster and hopefully another all ireland. be great to beat tyrone again hopefully!!!!!

I think the league final should be played at the home ground of one of the teams involved. Perhaps give home advantage to the team that finished top.

I did not see the game but I am a bit surprised that the midfield was a problem going by this account Villains. However, this is where Kerry lost the same fixture last year.

How did the defense hold up?

Kerry won midfield hands down- wtf?

defence did well but Derry kicked some terrible wides.

Riedy got skinned on a few occasions again though. One wonders if he's up to scratch.

    Good article in the Times

excellent idea. was thinking the same myself! would have defo got 20,000 + in killarney yesterday and could have doubled up with cork. i think they would have had no issues playing it there either.

think the home advantage thing is a decent idea but it's a national final, one of only two on the senior football calender so i can definitely understand why people'd want it in croker, even if it's only for sentimental reasons.

Oh and the Cork game couldn't have been in killarney if you're giving home advantage cos monaghan finished top in division two.

I've always thought that the answer is to have no league final whatsoever and give let the winners be the winners of the actual league itself. This removes the terrible situation of having a national final with a tiny crowd and the possibility that the two teams could meet each other in consecutive games with one being only slightly less of a dead rubber than the other in some cases.

As Eugene McGee was saying on Off the Ball last night this is the only national league competition in the world where interest decreases when you reach the final. The last day should have all throw-ins at the same time which if a couple of teams were still in the hunt would heighten the tension wit scoring difference deciding it if the teams were level on points. I know Kerry would already have been champions before the final day this year but that will happen occasionally and as the most consistent team they deserve to win the league as a league is meant to reward consistency. There is no need for a playoff in which at least one of the teams(Derry) appeared to have no interest in even playing in never mind winning.
