Nice country activities

    I have read many threads on this hunting forum and I have learned a lot from the vast amount of experience on here.
    I think that country sports & activities are such a valuable asset to Ireland and need to be protected and maintained.
    I personally am not a fan of coursing; however I would stand and guard a person’s right to do this, as it is a valid country sport. Just because I am too ignorant to see the sport in it, doesn’t mean it’s not there…
    I think it is lovely to see horses and hounds on the hunt; a nicer country scene is hard to find.
    I think that it is important for adults and children alike to understand the value of meat and know where it comes from.
    I think that a man who goes and hunts his dinner must feel very satisfied with such an accomplishment.
    Men band together to form clubs to pay Coillte for the right to participate in deer culling. These deer are humanly culled and eaten by the hunter or, as it seems, sold for a small amount of money to someone who will eat it.
    I have not heard of any animals going to waste in this forum and the high moral ground and ethics are always visible through the macho-ism.
    This is perfect.

    I have yet to hear of a meat eating hunter who insists on forcing his way of life and points of view into the public domain and insisting he is right. No no no, a hunting meat-eater goes about his business privately and with his best intentions for preservation.

    Then you take the anti-hunting, anti-blood sports, vegetarian, arm-chair naturalists who always seem to be so closed minded and righteous and insist on forcing their opinion into the public domain. They insist they are right and that no other way of life should exist. This I don’t understand.

    I know this is a long rant, but I am getting to my point; all hunters, country-men, participants of country activities need to feel that they are on the same team.
    Sometimes on these threads discussions evolve such as;

    I’m a real hunter, you’re only a lamper.
    I know real field-craft you only shoot from 400m.
    My guns bigger than yours…. You get the point.

    Whilst they are all interesting to read, I think it would be nice if we all agreed on one thing; we are all on the same team and in favour of eating meat and country sports and activities.
    There will come a time in Ireland where we will all need to stand up and be counted in order to preserve what we have now.
