Well basically i've an 01 passat tdi 115k miles, and when im accelarating between about 1700 and 1900 revs in all gears this weird humming sound(sounds a bit like a louder version of a phone vibrating) occurs from around the engine even when i rev up in neutral it still occurs :( , anybody have any idea as to what this could be?i've heard this may be sign the engine is on its way out, hopefully its not that serious tho,
    Any help appreciated,
    Thanks

Is it due a timing belt change? Could well be a tensioner pulley or something. Best to get it checked out fairly pronto mate.
Saying that it could be a loose engine cover, engine mount etc

Thinking outside the box, have you tried listening for the noise with the radio powered off (not just muted)?
