I think it's pretty cool that the Dublin City Marathon have paid for these four to take part over there, but does anyone know the logic? Is it something that's been done before with other marathons or is this a first? And how come Hamburg and not London?

Possibly easier to get places in Hamburg than London. Don't see why DCM hav paid for it though, or were they elite entries or something that you have to pay a big chunk of change to get if you've not already proven some standard?

Smashing times and terrific splits to get there.

Thanks for posting SP - disappointed for Gary. Man - the standard of marathons seems to have taken a bit of a leap (at the very top level). In the last few weeks we have had Rotterdam, Paris, London and Hamburg all in the 2:04's or 2:05's. London could easily have been a world record if the pacers weren't nuts and amazing stuff again in relatively little-known Hamburg:

    1 11 » Tside, Solomon (ETH) MH 02:04:28
    2 53 » Ngolepus, Charles (KEN) MH 02:04:38

I thought that Haile's record would have been round for a long time but now would be surprised if it lasts the year.

Edit: Ah sh&te - just noticed that I was looking at the 40k split.. actual time was 02:11:47 - not so amazing.

I was watching the coverage of London with teh kids so wasn't able to concentrate properly but I thought I heard one of the commentators say that Haile thinks we will see a sub 2 hour marathon in his lifetime. Hard to imagine at the minute but I think he knows what he's talking about...

No. I heard them claim he said that someone would eventually go below 2 hours but it would not be in his lifetime.
