Mileage Versus Age

    Hi,
I'm in the market for a new van and there's a few decent looking ones on Ebay going low enough, but with quite high mileage, a 04 with 221K for example. That one in particular states "NEW CLUTCH AND FLY WHEEL AND GEARBOX(IN THE LAST YEAR) GREAT WORKHORSE."

It seems to be falling into the same price region as a 01/02 with about 80K on the clock.

Which would be the better buy I wonder?

If it has a new clutch and gearbox, what else should I be wary of with such a high mileage vehicle? All I could know myself would be thread depth and that's about it:o

    Any feedback appreciated :)

the average mileage is about 10k miles per anum.

The lower the mileage the better just because it has had a new gearbox and flywheel id imagine something else is going to go thats a recipe for disaster,

    ,

For a car maybe, but vans tend to be on the road a lot more.

As I have said before mileage is not an accurate measurement of use, even more so on a van.

A van can be used, abused and overworked and not travel even a mile. Indications of an abused van are engine, clutch, gearbox and suspension wear, the body will also show signs of abuse but this is easier to hide, the odometer would be one of the last things I would take into account when buying one.

    Thanks for the replies.

Do you think because this has needed gearbox and clutch replaced that this is a bad sign?

If it has a tow bar on the back, yes!
