Baseball in Ireland

    Hi Guys and Gals!

Really really want to get involved in Baseball somewhere!! I have played a little with another club in the UK a couple of years ago but nothing since and would love to get going again.

I know there are some other threads here about joining a team but can anyone tell me where the DUblin teams are based?

I live in Meath on the M1 near the coast so i'm not sure if there are any teams north of the Liffey. I remember there being some training in Santry in the past but not sure if that still is the case.

Anyone have any hints on what to do? Baseball Ireland site is good but doesn't really give much info about specific teams or contacts.

    Cheers!

It's possible the Spartans train somewhere in North Dublin but their home games are in Clondalkin at Corkagh Park.

The Hurricanes are based at Corkagh Park, I think, and the Black Sox are based in Shankhill.

The other teams are outside of Dublin - none out your way.

I think there's a link on the Baseball Ireland site to send an email re "I want to join a team" - I'd follow through with that and see where it takes you.

Thanks Cousin. I've emailed the address on the website so hopefully I'll hear back soon.

I realise the season has already started but I would be delighted even if I could get involved in the training sessions if it's not possible to play in the league.

Does anyone have any idea if there is a decent amount of support for Irish Baseball? Is there many people playing? I hope so...

Sorry for the hijack but is there any Baseball clubs near Kilkenny?

No. There was an attempt to start a youth club in Carlow sometime in the last couple of years, I think.

I'd suggest to anyone who wants to play who is located outside of Dublin, Cork or Belfast to contact Baseball Ireland and ask them for help in starting up a team in your area. Yes, it might take a couple years to get going, but with support (equipment, start-up training) from the league you -- like the Cork team, which is pretty new but in good shape -- might get there.

Separately, I know someone in Kilkenny who used to be involved in the leagues in Dublin and would be a good local contact for you. He may not want to play but would have plenty of ideas and suggestions and could be a good sounding board for you if you do decide to start a club. PM me if that's of interest.

    Sorry for another hijack.

Where to get involved with umpiring in Ireland? I have umpired in the US for many years, and would like to know of an organization in Ireland that officiates at games.

    Thanks!!
