I was just thinking about this today.. Was there ever a stage when you considered to stop watching lost?? And why did you decide to keep watching?

I don't think i have ever considered it. I've enjoyed every season of lost... the worst probably being the beginning of season 3... but it got a whole pile better and had arguably the best finale..

So was there ever a time when you were thinking about givin up???

How do you edit the poll title? yo doesn't sound great..

    One word - Exposé.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 395 ✭✭AntoSRFC

Yes i have. Missed the last 2 episodes and couldnt be arse watching them online. This season is isnt good at all. Frustrating and crap more like. It should of ended last season when there might of been some credibility left. Like look at Prison Break edge of the seat stuff as always. and thats going to end soon. Would hate to see it turn into the mess that lost is at the moment.
The worst thing about lost is that it just doesnt look like it is going to end up somewere. Wouldnt be suprised if someone at the end woke up and it was all a dream.

Do you still think prison break is edge of the seat material?? I'm going to watch it to the end now but it's nowhere near as good as season 1 and 2 imo

You should really check out the last 2 episodes.. They have been 2 of the best this season and the next one looks even better.. again just my opinion

Ye i think its still edge of the seat stuff. I think there sort of running out of ideas though. Like How many guns have been pulled on each other. So in that sense id say its right to end.

Back to Lost id say ill watch it tomorrow but im just finding it borring. It Seems as if its going nowere. How many episodes are left? 25+

I gave up at the start of this season and I probably wont be going back.

I might however when the entire series is over completely watch the final few seasons if I have nothing better to do.

Never considered it really, it's not like it takes up much of my time.
I figure even the worst episode of lost is still better than most other things on TV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,945 ✭✭✭Anima

I dunno how you can say Lost is boring and then say Prison Break is great in the same sentence. Prison Break for me went downhill midway through season 2. I could say the same about Lost but at least it's gotten better rather than the downward spiral that is PB.

For me Lost is like a sine wave, has its peaks and its troughs and seems to fluctuate between the two all the time. You'll get great episodes about the island and then you'll get some muck about some bitches feelings. Irrelevant. Just tell me who/what/when the feckin monster/island/whispers/hostiles and ben's plans are.

Nah...I have this thing that if I have invested a certain amount of time in a show I will watch it till the very end, even if it has gone crap. That's why I am still watching smallville. it's just quite shocking the last 4 seasons IMO but I have watched so much of it I can't stop now.Have to see how it ends.

But don't think Lost falls into that category,it has been frustrating indeed but its still very entertaining.

I havent bothered watching any of this season at all.
    Enough was enough.

Exposé was awful tripe altogether. Viewer figures in the States were already down that season and I think they deteriorated afterwards.
Personally I'm one of those who gave up but came back, and only very recently. I thought last season's finale would have closed off the series pretty well, we had a group of survivors who got off the island and those who wanted to stay stayed. I refused to watch any of this season until 6 or 7 episodes had passed and I couldn't put up with listening to mates saying how good it was and that we were getting much more answered in each episode. I binged on Lost for a day and I'm glad I caught up because this season is actually immense compared to the two that went before it, particularly season 3.

I find it funny that people have given up watching the show, and yet still not only come onto this forum, but post about the show! Is this some magical power of boards.ie?!

I never considered giving up, and I actually liked Exposé as an episode to put two really bad characters to bed. The episode I really disliked was Stranger in a Strange Land, and in general I have tended to find Jack and Kate centric episodes to be the most boring.

The last episode I watched was the one where Dominic Monahan's character died. That's not why I stopped watching, I missed a couple of episode afterwards for whatever reason and never bothered going back to it ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,748 ✭✭✭tony1kenobi

I didn't start watching the show till the 3rd series was airing so I watched the first 2 series over a couple of weeks.

I think that had I watched series 2 as it aired I would've stopped watching.

The thing with the people from the back of the plane felt like a whole series of filler. They are all dead now (except who?Bernard?)....and didn't push along the story in a way that the other characters could have done.

I think the current series is the best since the first and I'll stay to the end. I am enjoying it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,339 ✭✭✭me-skywalker

Prison break and Lost should never be said in the same sentence... woops i just did damn! NOwhere near in quality script, tension, story, character detail/background/emotion.

Ive only ever missed 2episodes in the whole series adn they are both in mid season 4 with the whole off island crap!

Did consider giving it up at the start of last season but so glad I didnt. 'Constant' was a unbelievable episode that season and will remain my favourite episode of any tv show for a long time. This season has been really good with one or two unexpected moments but have found myself sometimes epxecting a certain thing to happen and not surprised at all when it does.

Will definitely get every season once the show is finished.

No, never thought of it. I've enjoyed every single episode of Lost so far. Even if some weren't amazing, they were still good enough to keep me entertained for 45 minutes. I'll watch it until the end, and probably cry when it finishes.

    <3 Lost.

Ye after 2 or so seasons I stopped watching. Might get the rest online sometime, what's it at now?
I replaced it with watching supernatural for the time being.

What faith said sums up my attitude.
Only one or two episodes didn't do it as much for me.

I know it's all nonsense but so is star trek and all sci fi... but it's good nonsense.

Tar, supernatural scares me  I cant be on my own watching it :o

To be honest the whole thing has dragged on. The first two series' were brilliant. One of the best programs around. But recently it has gone to the dogs altogether. Like time travel is kinda just making a mockery of it. But im gona stick with, albeit via my utorrent, as im sure they will have one last storyline of epic proportions.

That's why I have all the 14 year old girls on youtube and their comments on the videos to reassure me while watching supernatura. lol. Only 2 series were up there, so I have to watch the next 2/3 on my own.

I have a couple of gigs , all series 2 and most of 3 DL'd and midway through series 2 i just thought " Aah, here, c'mon now". I've been told its gotten good again, but i can't be arsed to even delete the ones i watched. Thank god for lost

There were one or two very slow slow seasons there. I came very close. I'm very glad I didn't now as it's currently one of my favourite shows.

Nope...can't say I have. The people who ever thought about giving up probably did so because they were frustrated at Lost. Lost has never truely frustrated me - it's entertaining. That's why we watch TV shows right? I enjoy watching Lost - whenever that stops, I'll stop watching. Simple as.

That's not to say there hasn't been some sh1tty episodes...I still shudder when I hear the word 'Expose'....and that one with Jack in Thailand....ugh..

    Wasn't there a 2 month break after 6 episodes into S3?

I was *this* close to not getting back into it after that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 224 ✭✭laurashambles

Not really. There were a few episodes in season 3 that I got bored of a few minutes in and turned off or tried watching but was so bored that I couldn't pay attention, (the worst offenders being that Kate episode with Nathan Fillion in it and the episode with Jack in Thailand - Exposé wasn't that bad really) but it got better as the season went on and I agree that the season 3 finale has been the best so far. Probably one of my favourite episodes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,492 ✭✭✭upmeath

Two really bad characters who were only introduced about 2 weeks previous. You never saw either of them in seasons one or two, they appeared on the beach halfway through season three. When they did, their names were said every time they were spoken to, to familiarise us with them, and we hated them! You might say we had a story leading to nowhere, or (and this is what I think) the producers really fcuked around with us and gave us 3 filler episodes. Terrible patch in the show's history, but it didn't make me consider giving up.

Actually the writers had finished the Exposé episode before the episode where Nikki & Paolo were introduced was shown on TV. They knew themselves that bringing N&P into the show was a mistake, it wasn't a reaction to the fans hatred.

been strongly considering it for the last seasons worth of episodes, but theres no point at this stage... too much time invested

its starting to tread a worringly obvious path tho, thats starting to concern me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,126 ✭✭✭Psychedelic

What do you mean by "a worryingly obvious path"? Surely you're not suggesting that you have the show figured out? There are major pieces of the story still to be revealed so it's near impossible to say how the show will pan out, it's definitely not obvious anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

nothing theyve "revealed" in a long time hasnt been pretty bloody obvious long in advance, theyre telegraphing EVERYTHING at the minute

Around season 3 when Kate Sawyer and Jack were being held captive. I just lost interest. There's a few episodes I've not seen from that season but from what I've hears it was the crapest time for Lost anyways.

Its all starting to piece together now so no point in stopping?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

I have never even considered stopping. Pretty much the moment Locke was revealed to be in the wheelchair in walkabout I knew I was going to watch this show to the end.

I don't get the hate with expose. I felt it was a fun episode. I disliked Nikki and Paolo as much as anyone but that's the point the got ****ing buried alive! 1 of best endings of any episode.

I suppose I got most disillusioned when Libby died as it the biggest accusation made of the show that they make it up as they go along seemed a pretty valid one at that point.
Also stranger in a strange land was awful but considering it followed flashes before your eyes which is 1 of my favourite ever episodes I just considered it a blip and kinda just ignored it happened.

Lost is incomparable to Prison Break or Heroes. Jesus Sona made a Jack flashback look like the constant. As for heroes. Without doubt the most over-rated season of any tv show ever is season 1 of heroes imo. Considering the hate season 2+3 got I only shudder at the thought of how bad it got.

Stopped watching after they got off the island cos it seemed to lose its way. Caught back up recently and have enjoyed the recent episodes. Keen to see where they are going with it but after Heroes ran aground and BSG gave us a very wishy washy ending, I dont know where Lost is going and I hope its not the same place.

Right now House is keeping me occupied and sane.

Yeah once or twice. Something that use to really get up my nose, and this was at its' most regular in Season 3, was the way they would take forever to say nothing. I don't know how many times I've been left asking myself "is that it?" once the screen fades to black with the logo. It still does get up my nose the way some episodes have that "over before they've even started" vibe, but I'm willing to overlook that now due to the sheer brilliance of the overall plot since S4 and now S5.

I think "What Kate Did" in Season 2 and "The Cost of Living" in Season 3 (really pissed at how they killed off a character who I believe they mislead the audience into believing was important) were the closest I came to packing it in.

Ha Ha, this thread reminds me of a Hamish and Andy podcast a while back.

"Imagine having a child that you hate.
And you go 'Well morally I feel obliged to raise you, and I'm just waiting untill you're 18 so I can show you the door'"

    Best analogy ever.

    Edit: Here's the mp3 file

    Never.

The show has always been worth watching and has never hit the depths of awfulness as, say, Heroes or Prison Break. I gave up on both of them in season 2. I caught up with Heroes again recently but, honestly, some of those episodes were a struggle to sit through and made me appreciate just how good Lost is. Heroes has been pretty good since Fuller returned though. Nothing would get me back to Prison Break, however.

Funnily enough I think the reason Lost has survived as well as it has is because of the very thing it gets most criticised for: filler. Constant edge-of-the-seat drama cannot be sustained in a serial show for long before the show simply self-destructs. This is what happened in Prison Break and, to a lesser degree, 24. I think the Lost writers were very smart to avoid this kinda thing by having big mythological-episodes and smaller character episodes and bridging episodes exist side-by-side, instead of trying to make every episode at the same tempo.

There's no doubt, however, that Lost works better when watched back-to-back on dvd and the like. The week break between episodes, not to mention the 9 month break between seasons, is torture.
    Was BSG at least ok?
It found it pretty underwhelming. And I was a huge BSG fan. Some people liked it though. It depends how you feel about a certain overused plot device. A device which, I might add, Lost is almost certainly going to end up using as well. I think it's totally unavoidable at this stage. But I reckon the Lost writers will pull it off a helluva better than Moore did.
