    Hi

I'm thinking of adding a coffee maker/machine to a small food stall I'm setting up and was wondering what would be a good coffee thats is 'fair trade'. Have tried a couple of the ones from Oxfam and some you get in the supermarkets over the years but was wondering what people think.

I would be serving 70-200 cups a day (I hope :)) and need something for the usual range, ie Espresso, Latte, Americano etc.

Also. Is there any place/shop/cafe in Dublin or around which serves these kinds of coffee so I could try them out.

    Thankee

Any particular reason why you're restricting yourself to fair trade?

No particular reason. Spent a lot of time travelling abroad over the years and have seen some negative things on some plantations and its something I'd prefer to do if the quality matches up.

They can be a bit more expensive but I can absorb this easily enough. I suppose why shouldn't I do it if it really is what it says it is.

Fair trade has nothing to do with quality.

Nor is fair trade an exclusive means for coffee farmers to get a decent price.

Fair enough, I can well believe that, a lot of 'ethical' or 'organic' or whatever labelling is abused or misused in a lot of foodstuffs, but I'm looking for soething along these lines.

Contact a good roaster then, see if they have anything ethically branded, have a taste, that's what I'd suggest.

I think Java Republic are pretty into the ethical / fair trade vibe so you could look into tasting their stuff.

There's a number of suppliers listed in the sticky on the main page. Make sure you negotiate a trade price.

I think Java would be a good bet, they have resonable coffee and good machines with suport packages available.
I would imagine some brands would not like to be linked to a market trader.

Grand, had a good look at Java Republics website anf I'll head up there later in the week, I like the way they run their building too.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Fair trade actually means you are getting poorer quality coffee.

If you think of it logically, if you can get a guaranteed price for your beans, you are not going to use your best beans for fair trade. No, you're going to use your worst beans.

I've also read a lot about fair trade being quite corrupt, so they are not an organisation I would be quick to give my money too.
