Hi folks sorry for the length but please read , my girlfriend owns a very rare 05 shape punto sporting, a relative of mines who is a very respected mechanic has serviced the car, the car was perfect with no rattles ect when the car was left with him, now after the service it now has a nasty engine rattle, not overly loud but still worrying, does it from ideling reves till about 2500 rpm, the best way for me to describe the rattle is that it sounds like and old feista 92 shape with bad tappets but the rattle in the punto sounds to be comming from the bottem end. Ive said to my relative he says its a punto what did i expect!!! been talking to a few other mechanics don't want to touch it cos its such a rare car, its a 1.4 but not a fiat engine as far as i know, 110bhp, and most mechanics have never seen one therfore don't have a clue what the rallte is, any ideas anyone?

Did this happen directly after the service, or a few weeks after? have you brought it back to him?

I noticed it just after leaving the gate of his garage i sure did i went back to him an hour after getting it, was told it was a punto, what did i expect! Its almost like the car was run with no oil or something, want to know if the rattle is cureable!

I had a 01 Punto Sporting and mine had that exact rattle everytime I hit 2500RPM in every gear, never bothered getting it fixed but it was there for months and the car ran grand so it mustn't of been anything too serious.

Very annoying about the Mechanic though, hate that crap. Your best bet would be to bring it to a Fiat garage, might be expensive but at least you know it'll be done properly

EDIT, now that I think of it, when it was left idle it's splutter a bit, whether the two were connected though I dunno.

Get it looked at an fixed because its too new of a car to let it go like mine did! (I didn't care for it all that much!)

Like what Graham said, bring it to a Fiat garage. Dont tell them how the

car is behaving, just say you'd like a diagnostic done on it.

Tell them your thinking of selling it. Hopefully get an an answer to

    your problem.
