    Awful, just awful.
RogerB crashed out on the second corner... the half way point of the first lap.
I was hanging on to the back, barely. Anytime I moved up, I couldn't maintain my position. There were a couple of other Swords riders at the back, but they looked a lot more comfortable than I felt. I lost contact just after a lap and a half. I tried to get back on and kept getting passed by the broom wagon. When it passed me for the third time I decided to pack it in. The hardest 22km I have ever cycled. Gotta keep it up though and I'll eventually have the pace to hang in there. Average speed for the first lap was 43kph according to my computer.

How did yourself and Billy Whizz get on?

It's bloody tough as I've discovered, but I plan on keeping on going back and hopefully eventually finding the legs for that pace. No shame in getting shelled in your first one. Fair play for doing it. It'll stand to you in the club league.

    Is Roger OK?

whose billy whizz? is it mick? was not in the mood at all, put the long sleeve jersey on, the tights and overshoes. course was pancake flat, the wind was strong so didnt suit me. got some good shelter and tipped along in the bunch.

    hope rogerB is ok.

not sure of Billy's real name.
RogerB is fine, just some road rash on his leg. Bike has some minor damage also.
I didn't think the course was very flat :o There was defo a drag after the first corner. Maybe it was amplified for me as I'm really struggling once it goes uphill.

Crickey... it sounds like mayhem in these races. Was it a C/3 Race?

I have no hope of racing at this rate.. These stories have gone from inspiring me to scaring the living daylights out of me....

Lol, the guy who came 10th in the A/B race is in the semi-limit group in our club league.

I'd expect so. He won his race on Thursday night too. Was told this morning that myself and blorg are being bumped up a group too.

Say that was the same in all the races today (Shay Elliot, Clonmel & Drogheda), i did the Shay Elliot and the bunch was v.small compared to wat i was expecting.

All these races shuld b stand-alone events really, its unfortunate the calender is planned that way, remember about a month ago or so there was no races in Leinster over a week-end,.

Can anyone give me the route (or link)? I was talking to a lad at work who was racing it. He said it was up around Duleek/Newgrange I think. Thanks

Thanks lads. I'm OK: just some grazes. Bike is a bit banged up though and is out of action. Someone brought me down on the third or fourth corner of the first lap. Just tried to shove his way through a bit too aggressively I think. No need for it. Anyway another guy behind came off worse: hit my bike and went head over heels. Was stetchered away in the ambulance.

Continues a dismal record for me this year: of eight races, I've been in crashes twice and dropped three times. Would be nice to just finish in the bunch once in a while!

Hey Rogerb, good to hear your ok, that was a teammate of mine that hit you and landed on his head, he was checked out in hospital and is ok but will be very sore for a few days, I was just behind and saw you come down and my mate land on his head....if ever there was an argument for helmets that accident was one!! Tough day alright, finished in the bunch today so I was happy enough, made one break a few km from the finish with another guy but it was v.windy so didn't last too long! all in all a great days racing though!

Hi BH2008, which club are you guys with? Glad your buddy is OK. I saw him go head over heels when he hit Roger (might have been Roger's bike). A couple of other guys ran close and just managed to avoid the crash.

Hi Raam, we're with Team Sports Med Ireland, Blue jerseys, its a multisports club with a lot of guys into tri as well as racing. We must have been fairly close at that corner I was just behind as well!
