Hi, I hope someone can give me a bit of advice please.

I'm a student and haven't been in receipt of any benefit during my course (sept - may) I've been doing 2 nights a week driving at 30 euro per evening plus tips.

I'm going to sign on for jobseekers if i don't find a job in the next three weeks (I really hope that I can)

My query is, when I tell them I'm doing two nights casual work at the above rate which is cash in hand, will that get the place I'm working for into trouble?

Also, will it affect the amount of time I'm waiting for the dole.

I am entitled to job-seeker's as I have been working for the last twelve years (this was in fact why I was denied the back to ed grant) and this past year has been really tough (up to my eyes in debt at the mo)

    Thanks for any insight
    gl

Well as far as I know you cant claim until 3 months after your last state exam. You may be out of luck on claiming I'm afraid.

You can't sign on during the summer when you're a student, whether you've been working or not. Also are you through the books for the 30 quid a night? Sounds a bit low.

I've been doing a F.E.T.A.C. Course, is this considered a state exam?

No as I said in my OP it's cash in hand, not ideal but 'twas the only thing I could get.

I'm not sure. I did a FETAC course in december and I was giving the chance to sign on afterwards (I never did) though there was no exam in the course.

I'm sure someone else here will have a better answer for you though.

You should note that cash in hand means you're not making PRSI contributions which means it could affect your dole entitlements.

Also, they calculate your entitlement to the dole using something called "relevant tax year" which for 2009 is 2007. If in 2007 you spent the whole year making money cash in hand thus not making any PRSI contributions, it won't matter if you made PRSI contributions for the 100 years prior - you won't be entitled to Jobseeker's Benefit, only Jobseeker's Allowance, which is means tested.

do NOT mention cash-in-hand jobs when you are talking to Welfare!!!! (Unless you've been declaring them to the Revenue any paying tax on them.)
