Yet another incident in Johnstown car park

Was woken up last nite round 4am to a loud bang which at first I thought was a gun shot...went up to my sitting room to find that a car was lit on fire in the car park and exploded. And waterfords finest decided to only show up once the fire was out and it was going for a good half hour.

My car was broken into not long ago in that car park at around the same time (only know this cause we had two witnesses) but i learnt my lesson fairly quickly. Cars get broken to every week and you think people would learn by now it aint safe in there....i guess some poeple will never learn.

I saw pieces of the burnt out car there this morning. Still there after 5:30 this evening. Which means it will probably be still there Monday. Often see broken window glass too. I park there every day for work but there is no way I would park there overnight.

Which is Johnstown Car Park again - beside Storm Cinemas? I can only think of that and the car park in the business park which is locked at night?

    Yeah, beside Storm.

Frankly I'm amazed anyone would leave a car in that spot overnight.

For that late showing in the cinema, I wouldn't be completely comfortable leaving the car there... A good candidate for CCTV by the looks of it... sort of...

It's called Millers Marsh carpark by the way.

    Your Harsh but fair Mike,

It's crazy in this day and age that you can't leave your car in every part of the city centre. I'd say one thing if it was a remote part of Lisdyggan or what have you but that is a relitively busy area. Saddens me TBH.

Most people I've talked about it to, even Waterford people, never heard of Millers Marsh. I usually end up calling it "the car park beside Storm":D

    I call it Tim :pac:

Guess its a rather archaic name these days.

I always viewed that area as being basicly dodgy I have to say. Too often you'll end up avoiding broken glass while using the place.

The "real" Millers Marsh is where the Mall is now - at Lombard St/Colbeck St.

I live in railway square and ive parked my car there overnight for the last few months and i haven't had a problem yet and my car was parked next to the car on fire but no damage to mine thankfully,i heard the bangs from the car on fire friday night and the fire brigade putting it out,but who knows if the car was there already maybe it was stolen and just burned out there,it does need cctv though theres 49 cameras around the town but none in any of the public car parks witch it ridiculous.

Well, I never heard of Johnstown carpark till this thread... I've heard councilors using Miller's Marsh on the radio, and that's definitely been the name (presumably) since there were still millers and it was still a marsh. Maybe there's a rebranding exercise going on.

Maybe this has been asked and answered before BUT why do you have to use parking discs in Millers Marsh Car Park (aka Johnstown Car Park, Storms Car Park and Tim)?
Why dont they have the pay stations like everywhere else?

Also i think it is sad that the Storm car park (as I like to call it) is targeted especially since it is so well lit up. I used to hate parking my car at the back of the old cinema in Darraghs Car Park. Way too dark late at night. It had brutal lighting, probably still does.

Funny I used to call that Darrer's car park. No place is safe to park your car in town over night.

    I mean the city ;)

Well those of us who live there park our cars every night without a problem. A case of Dunmore Rd. xenophobia by any chance? :P

They do have pay stations. Two of them. One by the bottle banks and one about half way down the car park.

But they print Johnstown Car Park on the tickets. It's all a bit schizo.

    post deleted

Mod edit, as you have already posted the exact same post in the railway square thread, i am deleting it from here. This thread is actually about the Johnstown carpark and not the shopping development in Railway square.
