Don't let the lady friends interrupt good bargains

Lol, a bargain alert referring to Harvey Norman! Whatever next!

More to the point, i dont know if this warrants its own thread but theres a small soundstore ad on one of the pages of todays Irish examiner. Its a 46" Full HD panasonic plasma for 999e. Whats more, it quotes 3 x HDMI inputs meaning that its a 46PY80, rather than a 46PY8, which would only have 2 hdmi inputs. If it is a 46PY80, it really is a bargain at 999E

They have Sony NS20E laptop for €510 this weekend.
Great price for decent entry level laptop, cheaper than all the usual online stores.

Antigone, do you reckon they'd give me the ps3 with 2 games for €300? I'd be tempted if they could give me that deal, or even the current €338 but with a few extras, say controllers etc thrown in?
I've been on the verge of buying one several times, but have been veering towards amazon or some of the northern deals, best current deal in UK is £267, so if HN could match that who knows?

Where can you get it for £267 in the UK?

At the current exchange rate and due to the differences in VAT £267 would cost €320 here at the moment, so the €330 is quite good. If it comes with 2 good games I would definitely go for it.

Argos.co.uk is charging £293.54 for the console

I might pop in and see what deals they have on games tomorrow.

I'm a little confused by you mentioning vat differentials as a potential cost, eu regulations state that vat can only be levied twice on goods which have an ex-eu origin.

    267 is available here:
    http://www.simplygames.com/info/16124/Playstation-3-Console-PS3-80Gb-PS3:god:
    (sorry 269)

I'm quite sure that Amazon have retailers selling for the same price, but can't be bothered checking.

there's also this available at £225 (customer returns):
    http://www.buyithere.co.uk/product/sony_playstation_3_80gb_solus_console_box_damaged

Argos are grand and the deal's not bad, but we all know they're rarely referred to as 'bargain'.

The simply games deal is for a console only and excludes freight of £20 for international orders. Argos is a better deal up North.

The deal in Harvey Norman just to clarify is for an 80GB PS3 with Killzone 2 for € 340. I bought it yesterday - newry is too much of a trek. There was no second game. If anyone does get it for € 340 and another game included I'd be interested to know.Considering Killzone still sells at € 50 plus and has a trade in value of between € 30 and € 40 in gamestop you are getting a good deal with the console for € 300 in bricks and mortar shop.

The difference in VAT rates must be taken into account as HN in ROI must charge 21.5% on the selling price, whereas UK companies only charge 15%

The current retail exchange rate is around 1.15, the XE rate is the inter-bank rate.

The PS3 deal in HN is very good value and if I was in the market for a PS3 bundle I would probably get it there at the moment

The deal I saw in rathfarnham was for one of several games (can't remember the titles, and any other game free - again the range wasn't great).

I should also have added that I don't need international delivery, nor tbh am I that interested in most of the games - i simply want a blu ray player and a way to play pro evo online with a few mates who're abroad and ps3ers.

JA Halpin, I am aware of the difference in vat rates, but that is HN's problem, you seemed to be throwing in a few quid extra to your conversion to account for the difference. Also, if you should be able to get better than 1.15 for stg.

That said I agree that HN's deal isn't too bad, but I'd just like to get a bit extra, so if Antigone is working there today and has the power to give me a bit extra on the current deal I'd be interested in going up and purchasing.

Anytime i've bought anything in harvey norman I've always haggled

The sales guys alwyas seemt to jsut reduce it to the owest price the register will allow - I even had one guy do it on some additional items i didnt even query the price on

I bought a list price €289 wall mount for a large tv for €201 - so it certainly beats 15% anyways!

Just ask them whats the lowest they can do it for - their checkout systems give them the cost prices I believe.

youd think that wouldn't you but doesn't seem to be the case, seen a washing machine for 489e been up there twice in recent weeks talked to the guy no prob we can order 489e, seen the 15% off yesterday and went up, bingo 15% off sign on the washing machine i want, call the guy over he dilly dallys for 10mins and comes back saying that its priced wrong and should be 5xx, he says he can give me 15% off that which worked out at 450, really pissed me off i told him id been before and the guy checked the computer no such problems he also said it was priced 489 cos it was display model(it wasnt they have loads in stock and this certainly wasnt a display model), i was really pissed off but it was the only washing machine that id liked and suited my kitchen, the guy agreed to deliver it for 450e( a fresh one) so against my principles i took it... due to limited choice(its a black washing machine very few on the market) i really didnt have much option and was prepared to pay the 489 but i certainly wouldnt trust there "sale".....

Just back from go Harvey go, bought a belling fridge freezer model bk66bk and hotpoint washing machine. I was looking at the fridge a couple of places and it was €615 with 2 yrs parts and labour in O' Dwyers electrical in Forge hill and Soundstore wilton said they'd match it at that price as it was originally retailing at €689 there. Harveys had it at €649 with an option of a further €99 for an extra 4 yr warranty. It comes with two as standard. The hotpoint was 1400 spin, A rated and has a 6kg drum. It retails at €350 plus a further €40 for an additional 5 years warranty. I managed to get both plus the warranty deals for €940. The fridge freezer ended up at €568 and the washing machine at €372. Not bad me thinks??!!

Was out looking for a new hoovers and they had one in NH for €449 with an extra 15% off or the same hoover in DID for €299.

I went to DID to purchase

My girlfriend went into Harvey Norman the Wednesday before the sale, a fridge she was looking at was 699. She decided to go in at the weekend to get it and in the meantime I heard about the 15% sale. The fridge was now marked at 799 with 15% off. So, because of this they're never getting a penny of the many thousands being spent on electrical goods for a new house. I doubt that they care though.

I've seen them do that before several times.. was buying a lot of household appliances but wasn't in any particular rush so i was shopping around. I had all the prices of the stuff i wanted, so when i saw an Harveys ad saying big sale, i went in.. only to discover they had upped the price on the appliance and then discounted it back down. Funny thing was that with this 'discount' they were still more expensive than DID and PC! There is a loophole in advertising standards that allows people to advertise a discount if they have had it at a higher price.. i just think its sneaky.

Funny you mention that, after seeing their ad on the TV about the 15% off, I went into Harvey Normans in Airside, and found that they are simply adding it on to take it off....there is nothing to be saved there. I wont be back to them, just wouldnt trust them.
