ok, final maths test went ahead the other day and alas! i failed it.... I have passed one of the 3 continuous assessment tests and my average for continuous assessment is below 40%.

does this mean i have to repeat or can i still sit the may exam and (hopefully) pass the module (ms125)?

    thanks in advance!

    MS125 Continuous Assessment 30% Examination Weight 70%

Nope you havent failed the Module. You can still average out your mark with a good result in the autumn exam. But if your failing continuous assessments things arent looking good for the summer mark. I suggest you drop into as many maths learning centre sessions as possible. Also read over all of the previous exam papers and make sure you can do the questions correctly. Again the maths learning centre will help out. Also if i remember correctly there were tutorial sessions for this module whereby they go through every question step by step. If you havent gotten these sheets find them of classmates/your lecturer/whoever runs the tutorial. You havent failed yet and can still pass the exam never to worry about maths again. Just try blitz things over the nexts 2-3weeks.

Hmmmm, check with the lecturer - Some of our courses had a minimum 35% in both CA and Final Exam, and 40% overall to pass

Oh God, MS125. I'm having a Vietnam flashback...

But ya should be ok. I was in the same kinda situation last year, Angela seems to be ok about it if you're close to a pass. I'm pretty sure you have to average a pass in the CA as well as the exam, but not 100%, it's very confusing. And there migt be extenuating crcumstances. Sure sit the exam and you'll find out when the results are out, it's what we did last year. Very few of us failed in the end, we all panicked too.

I believe Angela said at the start of the year that you have to pass every part of the module including class tests, attendance of tutorials and then the final exam. Didn't she say she failed a girl who passed the repeat exam because she didn't pass the class tests? I hope that's not the case anyway.

Ah MS125, whole lot of stress over nothing!

Im pretty sure i failed 2 out of 3 of those CA last year but i just buckled down for the main exam and did well in it. Ended up getting 60% or something for the module.

You dont even have to be good at maths, just remember how to answer the different types of questions and you'll be grand, the paper doesnt change much anyway.

Angela knows loads of people fail her module so she will do her best to pass you, just put it a good bit of effort for the main exam and you should be okay.

Just study from past exam papers, the format of the exam rarely changes. Also from your class tests, if you kept them and the answer sheets she might throw a few of the same questions up. Even without understanding the method you'll definitely pass the real test by just learning off how to answer each question.
