Bike storage problem

Ok, i'm after being given my uncle's bike for getting about in dublin, which is brilliant living in Cabra, so close to the phoenix park. However, after seeing burning bicycles the morning after last halloween, i'm worried about how i'm going to store it. The rented accom (live with workmate who owns) has a backyard which is very easy to access, and the only other option is bringing it into my room, meaning bringing it up carpeted stairs in a neat-lovers house. Any ideas? Covers for tyres? Wall brackets?

    No garden shed?

A bike lock might discourage someone from taking it, if only 'cos they'll have to carry it rather than ride or wheel it. Locking it to a wall anchor/bracket would be more of a disincentive. Of course, no lock will resist the efforts of someone with enough time and opportunity (and the right tools) to spend attacking it, but there's no getting away from that.

You can get waterproof(-ish) covers for bikes to keep the worst of the weather off it while it is outside - they are just like the tarpaulin type of covers for garden benches. This one seems relatively pricey at over 20euro, but perhaps that is a typical price this days.

Cover wise I would recommend you stay clear of actual bicycle covers, my experience with them has been that they seem to tear really easily after about a weeks use. I am currently using a motorcycle cover I picked up in lidl for 9.99 and although it is a bit big (it easily covers 2 bikes) it has easily kept my everyday bike from degenerating further.

Identical cover is used to protect my decent mountain bike along with my partners bike and no signs of rust so far.......

of course you should get a good lock and try to lock it to an immovable object for security.
