I was in my mates apartment a few weeks back and noticed that his NTL interface/menu was blue?, mine is the purple one.

    What's the story there?

He most likely has the newer box which comes with a vastly improved menu. Have a look at his box next time you're around there.

Can I request one of these from NTL?

I can't say for certain but I don't see why not. The main reason they have new boxes is that they have better encryption and seemingly they plan to replace all the older boxes eventually.

The old boxes can handle the new encryption too, the purple dash is the old NTL one, when UPC took it over they simply removed the NTL logos.

The blue UPC interface is on the newer boxes, thompsons ect. The pace ones are all ex NTL interfaces.

Im thinkin about ringing them up to to get one of te newer ones, my old pace is very dated and slow.

I got the UPC in only about 2 months ago and its using the slow pace box, the EPG takes so long that I have to manually type the channel number in to access it, I wonder is it because I'm on the value TV package?

no, theres plenty of reports that there trying to get rid of old boxes which they have.

More than likely have short stock of the new boxes.

If you challenge them on it they will give you a new one.

OK, I'm guessing thats what happened, will complain the EPG is too slow sometime, but as you know their not the most efficient company or easy to get through to :pac:

Are the new boxes quicker than the old boxes? Any NTL digtial box I've seen, PVR or other was despetately slow.

UPC just rang me offering me their phone services. Anyway I asked them about the new menu and they said it's a firmware update and that your box will update to the new firmware if you leave it plugged in over night. I'll try it tonight...

You'll still be looking at the same EPG and menus tomorrow.

Yes indeed they are making stuff up.

If you want the new blue guide you need one of the new boxes.

There are Pace UPC Mediaboxes also (the non PVR ones).

    Essentially the guide is this

    Network Manufacturer EPG
    UPC Thomson/Pace Blue
    NTL Pace Purple
    Chorus Sagem Green
