I got a E160G as a free upgrade from Three as a good will gesture, would I be able to sell my E169 online, is there any demand for them?
    Are they difficult to unlock?

just out of interest did you have to sign up for 12month or 18 month contract? three will probably not give out the unlocking code unless you pay for it.

What's the point in upgrading a modem? They're all the same. It's not going to improve your connection or speed. They've also probably locked you into a new contract, so this may not be as free as you think.

Selling the old one is possible, but without unlocking it, it'll be useless for anything other than Three Ireland.

    edit
Actually, the newer modems will support higher speeds of HSUPA, but I don't believe this is in many locations yet. It's probably a handcuff move.

The higher speeds only will apply in under 3% to 5% of locations anyway.

"under 3% to 5% of locations anyway"

    more like .0003% and .0005% !

The new modem apparently has support for faster speeds, which of course 3 have no notion of implementing.

contrary to popular belief, cleaning your cache, rebooting and cleaning the sim card does not increase speed.

it's not free they've just probably tied you into an 18mt contract.....the e160g is not much different from the e220, it's not worth the upgrade..

the e180 is the one to go for, it's rated to 7.2mbps and seems to be better for reception....it's €79 on a 12mt Upgrade....

Yeah I am tied into a new 12 month contract.
I dont mind though, I find the service pretty good where I am and for 19.99 a month, you cant go wrong.
I had to involve Comreg due to a billing issue, found comreg were excelent.
As a result of the billing issue I got a modem upgrade and the billing issue was resolved.
There were big issues around October last year with TCO Errors but since they fixed that, the performance is fine.

I also purchased a Dovado last Friday and am expecting it's arrival today.

So no-one knows of any unlocking tools out there for my older modem?

They didn't resolve anything really just fobbed you off by tying you to a new contract.

http://www.dc-unlocker.com/ it'll set you back €15, just download the software, plug in the modem and hit unlock , you can then use any network sim, all you need to do is set up a new profile in profiles, input the new apn and off you go...
Your modem is not unique to your sim so if you just want to use it with 3 again just get a 3 pay as you go sim, there's no need to unlock it...

Nah dude, I got 2 months free broadband and free modem so am happy enough. As I said, the service is prety good here usually, so for 19.99 I'm happy enough.
I had gone through many months ofdebate with 3 before engaging Comreg.

but all the "troubleshooting" takes more than half an hour by which time your speeds have probably jumped up a bit for a while so india chalk it down as resolved!

when people ring three they must insist on getting a complaint/ticket number or reference otherwise the call is treated as feedback and nothing will ever be done about the issues you are reporting.

I have an E160G PAYG from 3.co.uk. Dont know about the E169 but the E160G supports an external antenna. If signal strength is your issue then its a good move
