SuperBowl in London?

Before this could happen, I'd say a playoff game like a Championship game would have to happen first. Then again the teams who had to travel could bitch about having to travel so far when their rivals didn't. Maybe a thanksgiving game could be moved out of Dallas or Detroit to London, played at 8pm in the evening our time.

This is a completley stupid idea. First of all the Superbowl is all about being in a warm weather venue right?. So hosting it in February when London is cold and wet and nowhere near as nice as California, Arizona and Florida etc would contradict that idea. As well that the time of Kickoff would be another problem. If they were to kick it off at 8PM here that would 3pm back on the East Coast and nowhere near a primetime audience that CBS,NBC or FOX would want.

Warm weather, but a dome in a cold climate is not without precedence.
Detroit is hardly tropical in February.

I agree with you on the difficulty in timing though.
As the previous poster said, they'll go baby steps with this.

What dome? Wembley isn't covered, hence the mudbath a couple of years ago.

I don't think it would really matter what time the game kicks off at, its still going to get massive viewership. I'd actually reckon that a 3o'clock kick off would get more viewers than an 8o'clock one with kids and all watching.

It is around 6pm on east coast kick off.

    I can't see it happening.

I find it hard to see even a playoff game bar championship game going outside the USA because which team would give up home field advantage in the playoffs?

Yeah, but even still, once its not on at some crazy time viewership won't be affected.
I also can't imagine a playoff game being played outside the country because of homefield advantage, but with a SuperBowl it might work, due to it always being a neutral venue.

Wembley isn't a dome though so I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Cities such as Detroit (sp) woiuld be much better equiped to host Superbowls especially as they have the facilities and could deal with the blizzards that they had in February. It's also worth remebering that during this February london got hit by it's worst blizzard in 18 years and there was chaos everywhere. See what I mean? Detroit is simply better equipped to deal with wintry weather.

Plus according to this article Goodell has dimissed it happening completely so it's a non starter anyway...

The only reason that cold weather stadiums/domes will be used will be when they are a new stadium and the local councils gave money to the construction after getting guarentees that a superbowl will come there in future, such as Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy getting the game in 2012.

As far as talk of a championship game coming to London, there is no chance of this. These games are not played at a neutral venue but rather at the lowest seeded team and they will not give up this match and the home field advantage.
