So i'm driving up the N7 towards dublin this afternoon. Got to the kildare slip and everyone starts braking. I look out past a few cars and watch a 40ft truck's wheel bouncing up the road. It hit a little vw polo on our side which took the steam out of it and then it finished up in the central reservation. It goes to prove that anything can happen on the roads!!

Likelyhood is the lorry driver never knew it happened... Its not his fault such a thing happens, so its not a case that by stopping, there will be dire consequences...

I was driving behind a 40ft truck that this happened to. Luckily the wheel rolled harmlessly into a ditch at ~60/70kph. It took me a good 2 miles of flashing my headlights/blowing the horn before I got the driver's attention in order to let him know ,though :pac::eek:

The lorry driver did know it happened as the wheel passed him too!! He was pulled into the hard shoulder. Everyone was ok thank god.

There was a triple length 10ft ladder lying across one of the N7 lanes at 5.30 this evening with a Sky fitter climbing out of his van further up the road (a good distance up) looking slightly bewildered and looking at the roof of his van. Glad I wasn't behind it

A nice Citroen CX GTi Turbo 2 that I kept an eye on from Newlands Cross made all the difference though ;)

happens every day of the week

i have often had a trailer come back to the yard minus a wheel or even 2, and only seems to happen on super singles aswell,

that time with the petrol pump frightened me ,when i taught the garage was gona blow

Not funny and possibly deadly. Presume wheel bearing broke up or wheel nuts came adrift, lack of maintenance?

I know someone who was driving at about 60mph in a flatbed van on the N4 years ago when the bolts holding the spare wheel to the bottom sheared off. They heard a bang as the bolts let go and looked in their rear view mirror to see the wheel bouncing over the bonnet of the car directly behind. They were lucky that they were on a slight left hand bend at the time as it resulted in the spare narrowly missing their windscreen rather than smashing through into the driver.

Seems to be very common. I read a story a couple of years ago where a wheel came off an artic truck, it struck and killed a pedestrian who was out walking at the time. Tragic!

Was on the M50 few years ago between finglas and blanch and ladder flew off the roof of a white van in the FAST lane.

The car up his arse ended up in the central reservation, I was 5 or 6 car lengths behind him and had time to move lanes.

Also I followed the president on the M50 with her 2 out riders, the car had 2 flags on the front wings and 1 blew off and the motorcycle cop jammed on and parked the bike in the lane and ran back for the flag.
