Hi guys! So long story short a learner driver crashed into my car today while it was parked outside the office i work in. I went outside and challenged them and they denied it and left so I called the gards. I'm starting to wonder what will happen to them? I was once a learner driver myself and I know how scary and nerve- wracking it can be... I know I probably sound pathetic but I feel bad for him. The car can be fixed and paid for through his insurance.... was I wrong to call the gards? What will happen to yer man?

well leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offence. It depends on the Guard who is looking after the case i suppose

Are you serious? They damaged your car, left it without saying anything and now you are showing concern for them?
If they can't manage to drive properly (presumably the were driving illegally by being unaccompanied) then fupp them and let them suffer the consequences for leaving the scene of an accident, etc.

How do you know it was this guy who crashed into your car. Also how do you know he was a learner driver. If he did crash into your car and leave the scene of an accident I hope he gets the full whack of the law. If he is an unaccompanied driver I think he will be fined €1k and another €1k if he wasn't displaying L plates. Are there any penalty points for unaccompanied drivers? If not there should be, 6 penalty points would be a good start. The new law came in to effect almost a year ago, plently of time to sit a test.

Because I saw him from the window of my office and he had L plates up in the car. He seemed really freaked out which is why I feel bad for him.

Nice one, dirty little knacker deservers all he gets, I would not feel the smallest bit of guilt. Was there much damage.

A bit not too much. It can all be fixed anyway thank god. I wonder what will happen to him? God I've an awful conscience!

Sounds like the other guy doesn't any conscience at all. He could have easily admitted it was his fault, paid for the work out of pocket and gone his way.

i'd feel sorry for him aswell a bit.. he took the typical reaction of denying everything but that's cause he knows how feked he is.

still tho, i'd like to think that if i hit a car when i was unaccompanied as a learner driver, i'd at least admit what i've done.

Yeah he probably didn't know what to do. He's probably got himself in more **** now though then he would have been in.

He could of easily denied it, and if he was so sure he should of stayed to see it out, not run away with his tail between his legs making him look all the more guilty.
Id feel bad for him if he bumped your car as was really apologetic, but not if he denied it and fecked off!

Did you get any details off him, name, reg number etc. ?

Same thing happened to the mother in-law, in her case the gardai

were very lazy, she had to go get the other fella's details. Went thru

he's insurance company took about two months.

At the end of the day this person, learner or not hit your car and

drove off. Its not right or fair for him to get away with this sort

    of behaviour.

I saw a car reverse into the side of my housemates car a few years back, got the reg along with noticing a couple of scecifics about the car the guy was driving. the Gardai contacted the driver, who claimed they didn't realise they'd hit the car (pretty much impossible!) they then agreed to pay the damage.

This may be the case here too.

Maybe the guy was so oblivious he thought he didnt do it?
Still driving off is a bit serious rather than sorting it, or maybe he thought he did sort it?
Are you 100% certain it was him? not saying it wasnt

Had someone drive into my car and only noticed when came back out at lunch (months ago) bit of a gouge but managed to hit 3 panels and cost 1200 to fix

Please don't feel sorry for this person. Feel sorry for everyone else on the road who people like this are endangering every day of the week. That learner driver could have hit a child not your car. It really sickens me that so many people are on our roads who clearly can't drive properly.
If you can afford a car and insurance then surely you can afford some decent lessons and pass your test. We are the only counrty left which tolerates such behaviour:mad:
