Here is the full link to the Kilkenny Alive story.

    http://www.kilkennyalive.com/story/eight-men-cheat-death-car-ploughs-pub

It's mad no-one was hurt. I heard about it but had no idea of the enormity of the accident.

How drunk was the driver? or did he have a vendetta against the PumpHouse? :D

On a more serious note, was there reason for the lack of smokers outside the pub? Seems odd.. Could have been much, much worse. What was the mark of the guys trousers?
It is believed that a mark on one of the men's trousers was caused by the car brushing off it.

Because it doesn't read like it was written by a 12 year old.

Have to agree there about the quality of the writing. The photo in the People is better as well.

Something like this was bound to happen though. There are too many gobsheens speeding around Kilkenny and nothing being done about it. It's a miracle nobody was hurt.

Are you referring to just this story or the kilkenny people as awhole? ;)

    .

The people has one photo, the other site has three photos which show ALOT more damage to the car then the peoples one photo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,442 ✭✭✭Firetrap

Yes, there are more photos but the one in the People is better because it's taken further out and you can see more clearly where the car hit the front of the pub. Anyway, how many photos does one accident need?

I don't think I;'ve ever seen so many people so protective of the Kilkenny People....the mind boggles

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,442 ✭✭✭Firetrap

I'm not being protective of it all. I just think that in this case, the Kilkenny People article and photograph were better than those on the other website. In one of the photos on the Kilkenny Alive website, it looks like it's snowing. Not having seen the site of the accident, the photo on the People is taken from a better angle and I can see exactly what happened. The other photos are too tight.

I'm not protective of the Kilkenny People at all. I was simply stating, in my opinion, that the 2nd article was better written. It has nothing to do with the publication who provided it, but simply the quality.

i believe that there has already been a thread, or at least a hijacked thread discussing the quality of the Kilkenny newspapers (-when there was more than one weekly publication). There was a general concensus on the standard, I'm sure most of you can guess what we thought! :D
Still buy it on occasion though! :o

What does the Pumphouse look like now?

    The Bumphouse.

Haha, more like the dumphouse, for college dropouts and ''individuals''

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,313 ✭✭✭fabbydabby

I drink there fairly regularly and I have a Master's degree.

Let me guess, you like shoehorning yourself into Biddy's or Morrison's and tongue-probing the tonsils of fat fortysomething year old hen party single mothers from Louth to the sound of the pussycat dolls at 115 decibels, yeah?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,635 ✭✭✭KatCookie

Relax fabbydabby, jinxy only has 17 posts, lets hope he/she hasnt figured out how these threads go, seems to me that they only want to provoke you into an argument!

yeah i really like the pumphouse as well! It reminds me of a mixed between my two regular pubs when i was in college in cork the Brog and the Quad. Though I would go their on my own at weekends if the housemates not around so I guess I would fall under the "individuals" tag

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,313 ✭✭✭fabbydabby

Couple of my mates from Cork reckoned the Pumphouse was miles better than the Bróg! But I dunno... that quiz on a Monday was serious craic. They both have their moments I suppose.

there are several things wrong with your comment:

    1. Kudos you have a masters degree, but you drink in the pumphouse so that makes no difference. I'm sure you've done something with this degree, yes/no? I work as a tech dev and have only left college a year

    2. I agree Biddy's and Morrison's are cattle marts which is why I count myself lucky not to drink. I also go to the pumphouse on a seldom occasion when a friend's band is playing and the majority of people I see are what most people would class as hippies/grungers/goth/emo and anyone iv talked to talks about 'going back to college to finish..' whatever or are 'in between jobs' so I think I was still fairly accurate in what I said.

    3. Do I like shoehorning myself into Biddy's or Morrison's and tongue-probing the tonsils of fat fortysomething year old hen party single mothers from Louth to the sound of the pussycat dolls at 115 decibels? No because I'm female and don't swing that way, but the fact that you know so much about it tells me you must partake!

well since you seem to know so much about every one who goes to the pumphouse I'd say you're someone who works behind the bar :D except that would mean you're working two jobs because you already said you're working in tech in an earlier post. s

I got it framed at my graduation but I'm not going to hang it up cause that's a bit pretentious imo so it currently resides at the bottom of my wardrobe with the undergrad one.

So where do all the hipsters in Tech Dev socialise then, when they're not out people-watching in the post offices of Ireland?
