Looking for a number for a private dermatologist so i dont need to get GP referral and wait until im retired. Just get dry skin around my nose and chin and blotches all over my face since i was teen from shaving/swimming/gym and even just having a shower lasts a couple of hours and then fades kind of thing.

Tried doctors but anything they gave me made my face red raw so i dont want to be there experiment bunny while they keep giving me different creams. Anyway looking for some recommendation and possibly a number anywhere from Dublin to Galway or anywhere in between. I understand theres a 150-200 fee for private and that fine rather than the alternative

There's this place : http://www.beacondermatology.ie/. You need a GP referal to see a consultant but it says that you can ring for an assessment with one of their "cosmetic doctors" without a GP letter.Dr Katherine Mulrooney and Dr Jane Mulrooney work there. They are both consultant dermatologists and have been regularly featured in the papers and magazines. I think both or at least one of them also runs a practise in Galway.

the above doctors are not consultants in dermatology. it is disingenuous to suggest that they are. i am sure an experienced GP will have adequate knowledge of suitably qualified dermatologists and refer accordingly.

OP, you need a GP referral even to go private (as I discovered). It's a pain in the ... neck, but there you go, that's how these things work apparently. Your GP can write a generic letter, and suggest a few private clinics to call and arrange your own appointment.

First port of call for your health is always your GP.

You can ask for a referral letter from him/her. They will probably know which is handiest dermatologist for you in your own local area.

That was intended to be in no way "disingenuous".Both of the doctors I mentioned have recieved alot of media attention as consultant dermatologists.I am not aware of the distinction between consultant dermatology and what they practice however their qualifications are available to be seen for anyone who might be interested here:http://www.beacondermatology.ie/about_team.html
I know someone who was treated by one of these doctors some years ago and was very happy with the results.

Op my suggestion was intended to present the only alternative that sprung to mind where you could see a qualified doctor who specalised in the area of cosmetic dematology without a referal.I hope I made it clear that you need to see a GP for a referal to see the consultants working there.I'd suggest you should probably compare prices before going to a private clinic like that as they maybe more expensive than other places.Good luck anyway:)

If you look up the above named doctors on the Medical Council website, you will find that they are on the General Register rather than the specialist register, which you would expect of consultants.

ED BTW which part of the country are you in OP? have a couple of recommendations if you want.
