Being made redundant - Green month payment

So I've been made redundant after 8 months in a job which is fine but I just wonder what I'm entitled too. I know I'm not entitled to redundancy pay but I'm going to get my holiday pay and all that.

Someone just mentioned to me that they have to give me an extra months pay when I leave. They thought it was called a 'Green Month' or something like that.

Can anyone enlighten me / give me a job?
    Cheers

That doesn't make sense. Legally, all they need to do is to give you suitable notice, pay your accrued holidays and any wages/salary you are due. Anything extra would be based on a company's own practices contractual agreements.

Perhaps your friend worked somewhere where they had an additional local agreement?

Some companies, when making people redundant, will let them go immediately rather than making them work up their months notice. In this case, you'll be paid a months wages and any holiday pay and redundancy due to you. Perhaps that's what you're thinking of?

Ah. I see how the confusion started now. As mentioned above, you're entitled to whatever statutory or contractual notice period is applicable. if they let you go without without you working this then they do have to pay you in lieu of it.

I wouldn't call it 'Gardening Leave' as there doesn't appear to be any implication that the OP is prevented from taking up another job immediately. Apart from by the economic nosedive of course...
