Problem with wireless router

Hello, Im looking for help with my wireless router. I have one desktop PC connected up to the router via wired connection (As the router is in the same room as it) & I also have a laptop downstairs connected via wireless connection.

When using the internet on either alone they are fine, but when both are connected only the laptop will work & when you use the desktop PC it just says "Looking for www.******.com"

It will continue like that until a few minutes after the laptop has disconnected.

It is very annoying and I'm sure there is an easy fix to this, but I cant find it.

    Router: ZyXEL P-660HW-T1 v2

    Provider: BT

    Any help would be appreciated.

Show the results of ipconfig /all on both the desktop and laptop.

You have the desktop set to static addresses, but the laptops on DHCP? Is there a reason for this?

Ah, the laptop was re-installed recently and it wasn't assigned a static IP since.

Regardless of that, the problem still occurs.

When one of the machines is misbehaving, show the result from that machine of an nslookup and ping of boards.ie.

    Tried that:
    ping boards.ie
Ping request could not find host boards.ie. Please check the name and try again.

Seems that DNS lookups are failing then. With the laptop connected, and the desktop not workin, do a ping and tracert to 89.234.66.107 on the desktop.

So it seems basic connectivity is okay, just the DNS lookups fail. Put these in as the DNS servers on the desktop, 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220, and see if it improves.

It fixes it, but this behaviour shouldn't be occuring at all. Your router should continue to act as a DNS go between for any of the machines on your network. Still those OpenDNS DNS servers are a good idea generally.

    Any thoughts on this http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055465491

Is it the same problem? I couldn't get Sponge Bob's Solution to work by the way.

DNS lookups failing could produce the errors you see in the other thread. It would explain why the stream worked, and some tabs seemed to stay working. Can't hurt to try the OpenDNS servers either way. I wonder if there's some issue with the Zyxel OS.
