    Hi,
I'm looking to buy a 520d registered in 2005, like this one. Does anyone know where I can ge the engine varients for the 520 in this model as I believe there are a few different ones which overlap to a certain extent and I want to be sure that it's the c170bhp version I'm getting. Does cartell etc provide this information?

I'm not a BMW expert and I am open to correction but the E60 520d was launched in late 2005 with 163bhp only, this was increased to 177bhp in late 2007 when Efficient Dynamics was added. There was no other tuned varients of the 2.0 diesel in the 5 Series to my knowledge.

Are you getting confused with the 3 Series? The E46 320d had 150bhp up to the middle of 2005, the new generation E90 320d was launched in mid 2005 and that had 163bhp.

Your bang on there, the 05 would be the 163. I cant remember if it was March or Sept 07 which saw the introduction of the 177 engine. I think it might of been March, they introduced the new 523 with piezo injectors which they had a bit of a nightmare with.

Sorry, I think my point was lost slightly in my original post. My question is if there are more than one engine variant in the 2005 520d, there's one of 163bhp (thanks for the more accurate value from my c170) which is the one I would like to get, I'm just checking to make sure there isn't some other lesser powered engine that I could be unwittingly buying...

Nope, only one 520d in that year.

As there is only the one power output you are safe but the general rule would be to check the engine output figure on the factory sticker on the car itself. It would usually be given in KW.

Could have got better than 33k a few months ago when exchange rate was better! Best price I can find at the moment is with drivethedeal.com which equates to €34500 landed for brand new unregistered 520d SE.

How do you work that out? The cheapest 520d on that site seems to be £27429. At todays rate of 1.11, that's €30,446. You get the UK VAT back, but you have to pay Irish VAT and of course VRT (which is based on the Irish price). Surely that would add up to roughly €40k (give or take a couple of thousand - I didn't actually calculate it), before any other costs / charges?

    That's before the discount! It's £23200 after.

    -UK VAT = £20162.
    convert to € (incl commission) = €22626.
    + Irl VAT = €27491
    + VRT (6977) = €34467.

    I missed that bit :D

So depending on what dealer the deal is made with (could be anywhere in the UK) you'd have the car landed for €35k-€36k and a day or two of your time.

Yip. Or you could pay c. 10 grand more for a Sterling Collection 'UK price' one here!

I know. How are they getting away with that here.

I have posted a lot of new prices for UK 1,3 and 5 series BMW's here and I cannot understand why a potential buyer would settle for an Irish car.
