    Hi,

I have my eye a on purchasing a Mondeo I have seen a nice one for sale it is the 115bhp 06 Diesel( Will this powerfull enough for the car)
Also what did the 06 steel spec come with.

How relieable a car are they its either this or a vectra. I dont like the avensis quite boring.

They dropped the LX name in favour of the Steel name. As this would have been the end of run for that model Mondeo, spec's would have changed slightly, you might get CC, alloys or Parking sensors.. If you can go for the Zetec spec. Alloys, Fogs, Full EW, Nicer interior.

115Bhp is powerfull enough, I have one and it give 45mpg and pulls well enough. Don't go for the 90bhp, totally under powered.

Mondeo is way better car than Vectra - to me there is no choice there !

Shop around to make sure you are getting a good price on the Mondeo - there should be a good selection available.

These are the 3 I am looking at. I think it may be a straight cash deal I have around 7K to spend.

What do you reckon. I l like the first one but would really prefer the 6 speed gearbox and Cruise Control as well

If it was me, I would look at the second one. It is a nicer colour, lots of Black and Silver out there and it is also the Zetec model. The other 2 are the base LX / Steel model, probably only the 90Bhp engine. They are asking 7950, I would start at 6 and work my way up. Way the cash under their nose and you have a better chance of a deal.

Drive any of the three different varients and you will notice the difference.

90bhp is 5 speed and very noisy indeed. 115bhp is nippier and had a 6 speed gearbox from 2004 onwards. 130bhp version was pretty rare to find in Ireland, most here were high spec Ghia models or UK imports.

I actually think the Hatchback is a nicer looking car. Any one facny having a scout of the car sites for other options I would appreciate it.

Here is a Ghia spec model which is more than likely 130bhp. Asking price appears to include VRT too:

is the 130bhp modeo enginge the same one that's in the 2.0d X-Type, do they feel like the same car to drive? Half toying with the idea of one.. they seem good value - 2005 for about 10k...

TDCi's have a timing chain - no belts to replace.

I'd recommend the 130 every time and would try and source the 6spd box. Had one for a few years and it was a joy.

Mistake, do not make offers over the internet or over the phone for that matter, you will just be treated as a time waster. You need to be face to face with the salesperson when negotiating the price once you have settled on a car.

In saying that even face to face I think offering €7k for a car advertised at €9k is very optimystic to be honest. That's a discount of over 20% if my maths are correct, not likely to happen on a €9k car unless it is something saleproof.

    Thanks for that Bazz,
Would 1k on a 9k car be the norm to get off?
I would really like a 06 but what are peoples opinions on the following
    06 with no toys
05 with all the toys Cruise Control 6 speed gearbox etc

If you can find a 130tdci, thats the pick of the crop. I stumbled on one a few years ago, and can say with hand on heart its the best car I ever had. I had driven a few 115 hp ones previously, and thought them good.
The 130hp one however is very very good and has been utterly reliable in the 50k miles I've put on it so far, needing nothing but consumable items.

Btw, the one I have is a hatchback too, and its a very practical car when you need to carry something big and bulky.

If I had one quibble about the zetec model, its that its a little too stiffly sprung for my taste.

These were for sale a while:they might be worth considering:
