    Hey peoples,

I have a 2005 Nissan Almera and was wondering if anyone knows anywhere I a could go to in the Dublin area that I could go to for a reasonable price? With the current climate i kinda wanna keep my petrol going for as long as possible and a couple of extra horses in the engine would be too bad neither!:D thanks!

you're wasting your time on a non turbocharged car. just get something better.

    what?

Remapping is not just about overall top speed nor is it just about driving fast!!!

Remapping has many advantages like increased MPG, better torques curve, smoother drive, also increases things like 40mph-60mph etc. important for overtaking which would probably be noticed more on a car with lower HP as you won't have to change down as much. Obviously gains can be seen in BHP, 0-60 and so on!

Sort out air intake and exhaust aswell as these well seriously help the engine!

But on a 1.5 n/a engine the gains would so small the OP would be simply wasting their money. Better off putting it towards a trade...

THere's only so much you can do with the 1.5 Almera engine, even if you liberated a few horsies:

There's probably no ABS or side airbags
    The gearchange is woeful
An upgraded intake or exhaust will make the car even noisier.

Not worth trying to make a fast/decent car out of a 1.5 Almera. As I said, the OP should just buy something else.

+1 Not worth remapping that engine, as the rest of the engine internals will let it down anyway.

I know of 1.2s pushing 100bhp with a remap and proper induction! An increase of 20bhp!!!! That's a pretty good increase I think! It's not all about increasing bhp either! Don't see how airbags or ABS has anything to do with remapping!

That type of 'induction kit gives 10bhp', 'exhaust gives 15bhp' nonsense is best left to halfords TBH. In most cases, to get real power gains and more like what you're quoting from an agricultural 1200 cc engine, you'd want to be doing work on the head, uprating the injectors, high lift cams, etc. Much more work than just fitting an induction kit and a remap and guessing the power output. It's easy to claim power, more difficult to actually prove it.

OP, don't bother - treat yourself to a different car instead.

Because without safety systems, increasing the power output of an unsafe vehicle is irresponsible. One of the best modifications I made to my car was to uprate the braking power significantly - and it's comforting to know you have safety systems to back you up.

I'm not talking about randomly placed cone filters, I'm talking about induction kits from the like of GSR, these are bespoke hand made kits that are tried and tested with a RR! I'm not talking about putting some stupid 26 inch drain pipe backbox on either, I'm not a complete idiot! If you couple proper induction and a remap real results can be gotten.

The few hundred saved on a remap won't buy a new car!

I've upgraded brakes, suspension etc and I understand the need/want for them but you can hardly say the Almera is an unsafe car. All I'm saying is that a remap can be beneficial for samller sized engines and not only offer increased power! And it really depends on the remap, different companies will have different remaps that can be good or bad!!

Just out of interest, what mods have you done to your brakes?

The OP didn't ask about induction kits - he asked about a remap and was rightly told that a remap on a N/A engine is a waste of time - you questioned that for some bizarre reason and went off on a tangent about induction kits and air filters.

An Almera being remapped is a waste of time, end of.

I don't understand why the hell you are so hostile, this is meant to be a disscussion board after all right? He asked about remaps, I mentioned other ways of increasing performance, so that is pretty relevant. Other people have talked about airbags that are not performance related so they have moved more off topic than me! As this is a discussion board am I not entitled to question things? Doesn't questioning things let everyone have a better understanding of things?

At least I can back up my opinions, I don't know everything but I'm trying to put my opinion across and debate it and get a better understanding. Many benefits can be had from remapping even same engines, this has to be weighted up against the cost of a remap and the possibility of extra wear and tear, this should allow the OP to make a decision. Best thing is to talk to companies who provide the service and see what benefits their mapping can do, and ask for proof by rolling road testing the car before and after!

25% with an exhaust and better induction sounds optimistic imho

please read what I said correctly, I said proper induction and remap! I'll see if I can dig out the car. The GSR induction kits are pretty good, I'll get a few pictures of one!

Went from 220mm discs with a single piston, to 320mm drilled and slotted discs, and 6 piston wilwood capilers, braided hoses and an uprated master cylinder.

Is that your daily run around? I had a GP4 in my 'fantasy garage' thread on here last week but i'd say your machine would easily replace it

I wish LS, I don't drive it as much as I'd like, it stays about 20 miles away in my Mother's garage under a fleecy cover :)

You started off in this thread rolling your eyes at someone. Hardly the most welcome of entrances.
