MacBook Pro Sleep Issue

Having an issue with this my Mac Book Pro this morning.

It won't seem to wake from sleep mode properly. Either that or my screen is broken.... I'm hoping that's not the issue though.

Upon opening up the lid the sleep light stays on and screen remains black but the pips made by the volume control keys still happen so the OS is running, it just seems like it hasn't woke the screen up yet.

Anyone come across this one before?

Happened me a few weeks ago. Dont want to frighten you but it turned out to be the logic board. Apple repaired FOC even though I was out of warranty by about 6 months.

Yeah. Looking like that's the most likely problem alright.

I have a similar problem with mine as well. From what I read a while back it was a common problem and had something to do with the power supply. Do you have it plugged in when putting it to sleep/waking it? This seemed to be the problem for me as i'd have this constantly happening maybe every 3rd time i'd wake it!

I make sure that I don't have it plugged in now any time i'm waking/sleeping and it hasn't happened in months.

To the OP: Have you tried clearing the PRAM? (Restarting and holding down Command-alt-P-R). It can help. Another option is to boot from somewhere else (DVD/external drive) to see if it's a software issue.

Try resetting the power-management chip. Instructions here.

See this now and again. Noticed closing the lid (putting to sleep again), waiting a few seconds for the hard drive to spin down fully and reopening the lid usually gets things going again.
