    Hi,
I am thinking of adding a small forum to a website I am building, but can anyone advise if it is a legl requirement to have moderators or can you live without them ?

If I have to have them, are they generally volunteers or paid ?

    Thanks !!!

Don't know about the legality of it but it would be responsible to appoint moderators to keep an eye on things in case they get out of hand. So I would look into getting a few moderators to oversee things if only to cover your own ass against a backlash if something went wrong. There's any amount of problems you could encounter like advertising, underage porn, bullying etc.

On a lighter note I could be a moderator, a paid moderator please :D

Can you say what type of website it will be?

Thanks mate. It will be a motorbike website.
I am hoping I can have frequent users moderate for it, if it's a requirement.

All moderators on boards get their internet connection paid for and a lovely car for getting back to your computer quicker and a nice sum of money to go with it:):) If only that was true;)

I don't think you have to have a moderator on your site but if you don't have someone looking at it you could end up with an awful lot of sh*te on it and as the site expands it will be harder to control hence so many moderators on boards who are all designated to different areas.

No bother but I don't think I'll be much use to you as I'm a 'chick' instead of a 'mate'!
You could post something similar in the motoring thread here, I'm sure you will get a good few people willing to act as moderator if needed.
Best of luck with the website.

Bob, Cheers for the info. Does there usually be moderator online all the time ? Or do ou reckon I could spend an hour a night moderating myself ? The volume wont be massive !!

In fairness to the moderators ye don't let anyone get away with much so it's a job well done all around.
However sometimes ye seem a bit harsh, but funnily enough that seems to coincide with my bad humour & an unnatural feeling of having to rant :D

    Depends really.

It's not like we are given a timetable of what hours to log in at and for how long.
There are different levels of moderators. You could be the admin or general manager who can make all the final decisions. In the early stages you could probably moderate it yourself but then you will have to appoint moderators to different categories.

And easyeason3,we don't take any sh*t in our forums.
