Google Earth Crashing

My computer crashes or freezes immediatley I try to load Google Earth. this is a new problem as it used to work perfectly until a crash (for a different cause) deleted a large number of files and apps. When I got it going again I downloaded and installed a later version of Google Earth only to find I now had this problem. The earlier version seems not to be available. All other items run faultlessly. Any ideas for a fix?
Having scanned with various products, I am satisfied that I don't have virus or malware problems - at least of the detectable variety.

Try switching it between OpenGL and Direct3D to see if that makes any difference. Make sure your video card and sound card drivers are up to date.

Had done all these before posting enquiry. Not sure where to go from here, i only know that the earlier version of Google Earth worked properly but it seems that it is no longer available.

    Go to this page
    http://download.cnet.com/google-earth/?tag=mncol

Under Date Added there's a box that says Previous Versions. Drop down the box and select a version that you want - it should do the trick!
