Is it just me, or does anyone else get mildly peeved when they see headlines like this:

Gaping Hole Left In Plane After Bird Crash

OK, I'm sure it was far from a routine landing, but I don't see any quotes from the flight crew about how "the pilot fought to keep it under control", only from the passengers.

The media ALWAYS sensationalise articles about aviation, ALWAYS. It was the same when the door fell off the IAC AW139...

Rarely are the medias articles/reports about aviation incidents justified.

They always go straight for the passengers who do not have a clue about standard operating procedures in these incidents and are still in shock. Its always "according to passenger Joe Bloggs the plane fell from the sky at a rate of 8,000 fpm. I was sure I was dead", when instead it was most likely the Captain getting the plane down if it was an incident regarding loss of pressurisation.

Sometimes the airline holds onto the passengers after they have evacuated and let them get over the shock, explain what happened and advise them not to talk to the press.

Dont get me wrong, I wouldnt like to be a passenger in a situation like that but the media shouldn't be scaremongering either.

Was going to start a thread on this last week funnily enough, after 2 similar storys from last week....

I can't remember where I saw it, but
'Passenger lands transatlantic flight after pilot passes out'
Explanation: An off-duty pilot from the airline was on board, and landed the plane. Story here

    Quite similar....
'Passenger lands plane after pilot dies'
Explanation: Passenger was on a twin engined light aircraft, but had a PPL for single engine aircraft. Ok, so that's tougher, but still a little vague from the headline..Story here

The problem is that there have been quite a few high profile incidences (some involving deaths) involving airplanes this year already. therefore, any small thing like this is going to get magnified/sensationalised. Then, all of a sudden, airplanes will no longer be safe... ...
