Not so funny as you may think because deer can not see orange as a colour and you would indeed be very well hidden.

And some of the hunting jackets and hats have a dayglo orange turn out patch so that you can be seen in the forest.

Clean pair of shoes to drive the car home in, she goes ballistic if I drive home after walking through a few farm yards, Oh and don't let her wash your hunting clothes as the smell of spring rose or whatever crap it is can totally ruin your chances.

Some string..if its good enough for McGuyver..

Actually I'm going to add it to my bag for hanging up the rabbit before field dressing it.

How about some bandages..antiseptic and a moblie phone..you could use the string as a tourniquet just in case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,795 ✭✭✭fish slapped

Yep string makes carring 3 or 4 of the little buggers so much easier to carry. I never go without my phone.

I would say your mobile and a small first aid kit. I always had one in the dog trailer and a small gundog vetinary book. Last season I was glad I had the kit as my cousins shotgun had a barrel burst and cut open the tips of his fingers to the bone. We were miles from nowhere and I was able to wash out the wounds with saline solution and dress the wounds good enough to get him to the hospital. You never know!
Oh and if you use something out of your kit don't forget to replace it straight away!

Tying in with Mallards' story : a boresnake. Nothing cleans a gunbarrel as quick and easy. It's extremely handy to remove litttle bits of mud and other crap from inside a barrel if you pick some up.

Tieing in with MeathStevies post, an oily rag. If your out hunting in the pissing rain, which in this country you've every chance, then give your gun a wipe down before you come home. This will stop it starting to rust which happens within hours of getting your gun wet.
