Sore knees.

Hey guys. Just looking for a bit of advice.

I got into running around two months ago; nothing too serious at all, around 10 K about 3/4 times a week but from where I was, it's a decent start.

Im starting to get worried that my knees are getting a bit sore though. Recently, I can feel a dull ache, mostly in my right knee and to a lesser extent in my left knee. It makes the first 5/10 minutes of my run very aggravating as that's when it's at it's worst, I feel like Im almost limping but then it starts to get better and better throughout the run (10 K over around 50 mins usually) until by the end of my run, It is barely an issue. My achilles heel would also be fairly sore as well but it too seems to get better as the run progresses.
Im concerned though that the adrenaline brought on by the run is just masking the pain and that im only making it worse.

I would be farily flat footed but got a decent pair of running shoes (Mizunos) from a proper running store so thought I would be safe enough. I even got a pair of them 1000 mile compression socks to offer more support for my ankles. Maybe I should see about getting an insole?

I stopped running for a week there in the hope it would get better but it is still there.

Its nothing too serious, not too sore but I want to nip this problem in the bud before it becomes a major issue. Im just starting to get fit and am hoping to run my first 10 K race in just under a month so would hate to have to stop now.

Im about 6 foot and 13 stone of an average to stout build as well. I would usually run along forest trails as well so the trails wouldn't be too hard either.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Just saw that thread on page 2 so not sure if this thread is even vaild. Apologies if it's not. Im intending to see a physio anyhow but just wanted a bit of general advice to see how common this problem is.

I'd get a physio to give you a diagnosis but I'd reckon that nearly everyone has had some sort of knee pain at some stage. Any of the books will tell you that overuse (i.e. good engine but weak chassis) can bring on injury. In relation to medical advice you should ask yourself whether you'd diagnose a broken arm on-line or at a specalist?

Have had a few problems this year with the knees (wear & tear) but what worked for me was a trip to the physio and some cod liver oil each morning!

Your physio can advise on what exercises you need to do to build up muscle to protect the weak parts of your knee. In my case it was just a one-off visit - money well spent.
