Wii Freeloader problems

I have recently bought a freeloader disc for my wii to play NTSC games. When i put the disc into the drive as instructed the drive makes a bit of noise and then the system gives an error telling me to eject the disc and restart the sytem.
Not sure if i am doing something wrong or if the disc is bodus.
Disc is one of the small half size discs. Could this be the problem???

If you have updated to a firmware of 1.3 or newer the disc won't work. Nintendo got rid of the exploit it used to run.

Retro means system menu 3.3 or higher.

Had a feeling this is what it was. Is there any way of downgrading the firmware back to original? I have heard of people doing it to psp and ds before but not wii.

It's possible if you have the homebrew channel installed? However you can't install it on a firmware greater than 3.3 (I think there is a way to install it on firmware 3.4).

Also if you have the homebrew channel installed you have no need for the freeloader as there's an app that does the same thing. :D

Except it doesn't work with any decent games like super smash bros.
