Airsoft Pics as referance for my artwork? :)

    Hi there,

I hope it's okay to post this here.

I'm an illustrator by trade, and I'd really love to draw up some airsoft gear for a company that I do work for. Would there be any chance anyone here having some pics (jpgs) of their airsoft gear laying around? And then wouldn't mind me using them for reference in my artwork?

    Thanks in advance,

    Robert.

In this section there are few stickies with pics of airsoft gear

Please don't refer to them as weapons mate

Sorry, my bad. I've fixed my post now. :o

Also, thanks for the link, some lovely stuff there indeed. Unfortunately, I can't really use anything there without the permission of the photographer. Even though I'll be drawing the stuff up myself in a totally different media (Vector illustration). The company I work for, are very picky about using pics without permission (even for just for reference!).

Thanks for letting me post here btw.

    Cheers,

    Rob.

You could always just PM the people whose work you interested in for permission

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

So you want pictures of people with the gear, rather than just images of the guns themselves. Yeah, probably a good thing to be asking permission first then.

    Hi there,

Actually, I'd just prefer the pics of the guns if possible. The company just want to make sure that we're not using commercial pictures from a professional source, ie a website or a professional photographer, etc.

Not that I would anyway... I guess these guys are covering their ass.

I had thought about doing that... but I felt it was a bit cheeky just PMing someone out of the blue that I didn't really know. This way poeple can just help me out if they want to. Or feel free to ignore me! :)

    Thanks guys,

    R.

Why not use one of the many online resources available to obtain the images?

I'm sure there are websites dedicated to providing free use images, I just cant remember the names of them.

If you ask for some specific images, I'm sure people here would be happy to provide them though, but you need to be specific.

Again, it's hard for me to prove to this particular company that I have permission from a commercial website. Anal I know, but that's the way these guys operate. :( I guess they've had problems in the past with people just tracing source images form a commercial site or something like that.

Anything really... I was hoping for a "profile" or side view of an AK-47, or any automatic guns (rifles, hand guns anything really!).

Here's my website - just to show I'm not messing you about. :)

    Hi Masada,

The pictures I get here will not be as is. However, I will be using them as reference to draw my own original artwork (Vector). So I will be trying to make some money from the work that I do, as I previously stated I'm a commercial illustrator.

So fear not I wont be using any of your work, but I appreciate the offer.

    Thanks tonyj_mc & Lethal_Bullet!

    Cheers,

out of curiosity, i am assuming you have our best interests at heart, as in airsoft will not be presented as something intrinsically evil...or guns for that matter as that will also affect us..??

Fear not, I'm a commercial artist :). I have no political agenda. I just love drawing guns as well! Basically, I'm using the airsoft pics just as reference for my drawings. The airsoft name wont be used at all.

Here's some muskets I did a while back. I'll be doing something similar with all the pics you guys have kindly let me use.

Hey Rob, good to see you here too:). Don't have any of my stuff on photo's but if you ever make down to this neck of the woods, you're welcome to take pics of whatever I've got. Couple of nice pieces.

Although I'm fairly new here, I'd vouch for Rob as a straight up guy who understands the situation. We're both into martial arts and believe me, we're used to the the type of situations where it can be portrayed in a negative light.

    Hey Dave,

Thanks for the vote mate! I really appreciate it bro'.

Hope you're well btw? I meant to contact you a while back, I've just been mad busy trying to eek a living. :o I'm still up for training though if you have some time!

Yeah, were no strangers to negativity from a martial arts perspective, and the potential unfair banning of certain items :(

The guys here have been really good, and have provided me with so much reference material, I'll be busy for months! I can't believe how beautiful the airsoft stuff looks. If I had some spare cash I'd buy one, just so I could put it up on my wall and admire it.

    Talk to you soon man,

    R.

He has seen Rush multiple times. Anyone that into Rush is good in my books!

+1 on seeing some of your work when it's done :)

I have some here that have already been cut out with photoshop, they still have shadows under them so you'd have to watch for that if you did use them but the quality's not great.

As promised, here is my first piece of artwork. I have a two more pending - so I'll pop them up when they are up on istock.

It's not meant to be an exact replica per se, it's just my hand drawn (all be it on the computer) impression of the gun.
